Also, Shinichi was able to pay a plane ticket for himself as shinichi and for agasa (or agasa was able to) . So it wouldn't be a problem to take a trip to the other countries, which aren't so far away anyway.

british exceptionalism, people on the continent travel between countries more for legal (no passport) and cultural reasons.

also, re: a point made in another post- opposite side driving can be done! i wouldn't recommend it, but we were able to get through western europe (france, belgium, netherlands, germany to berlin) with an english rental car, though it did cost the car both of the sideview mirrors.

though whole thing is still quite silly.

I didn't. I've gone on day trips to other countries, but not somewhere where I'd have to fly. But I know people who have done that, and for me it's mostly for financial reasons (that I don't fly abroad for day trips), which wouldn't be a concern for Shinichi at all.

I don't think that was quite what the original poster (can't remember who at the mo, sorry) meant. The point was that Reichenbach Falls isn't in London so it makes no sense for Conan to act like he's gonna get to see it when he goes to London.

1) I don't know what 'Schengen' is... Oh right, found it on wiki; to me it sounds like a good idea, no idea why they didn't agree with it to be honest, probably some random security thing...?
2) While I admit it would have been better to join it a few years ago, at the moment it wouldn't really do any good with all the stuff with Greece going on...

My history teacher's like that too actually, she thinks that you've got to look at all the evidence and make your own mind up, half the time it sounded like she wanted us to be like detectives... which is... an interesting way of looking at it...
And @Dus: I dunno... maybe? (kidding of course ). Well, my Dad says one of her main faults was that she didn't listen to other's opinions and always thought her way of doing things was best so I doubt that got her any popularity. All of the people I've asked who remember what she did when she was in power seem to not like her so I suppose part of the textbook is trying to get a less biased view of her, as in: not just remember her for what happened later but realise she did some good things before then. Though I don't really know much about her so I can't really say...

I don't know much about Northen England since I'm from the South and most of the mines down here are tin and were closed a long time ago, but I know that the consequences of the miners' strikes were pretty bad.
Yes I am from Britain. My History teacher can be a little crazy when she gets enthusiastic about things. At the moment we are doing American History and she is getting scarily into it and finding loads of songs from the period we are currently studying so we can use them as sources. she also goes on about historians being detectives a lot. ( I don't mind that.)
