i say the earth quake played a role.

making an anime based on existing manga must be easier than creating a fresh anime original... and if they keep doing a bad AO ( more worse than normal AO which already bad) the rating will drop. so maybe they decide to use the manga..

Is this the closest the anime has been to the manga? If not, when were the other times?

And if it is..does it mean something..? Or am I making a big deal out of nothing - a part of me wants to say we should expect something big like 345 or Clash of Red and Black really soon...or that the ending is near?

The anime was about that far behind the manga in december as well (file 759 was published when the anime was up to file 724) before the 2 month AO streak, so there's nothing exceptional.

Therefore, sorry to burst your bubble,  but it doesn't mean anything.

The AOs which aired this year had better ratings than the London Arc, so I doubt your theory is correct. Besides, Conan is one of the 6 anime in Japan (with Sazae-san, Chibi Maruko-chan, Doraemon, Shin-chan and One Piece, basically the long running ones) where the main character could read the dictionnary and yet still manage to get decent/good ratings.
