Detective Conan 613/614 (Demon Dog Conclusion/Secret Diary 1

Buy 1 get 1 free! ...wait what?

Way too much explaining for the last part of the Demon Dog. Cool that Kogoro actually knew stuff but I swear it felt like it took twice as long for Kogoro to explain stuff than it did to do the entire reveal of the case. Cool that I guessed the culprit right (kinda) but it was done in a far less interesting way than expected. Heiji and Kazuha added nothing to this case as well. Also, I could have sworn I heard there was a bit of foreshadowing to a later case in this one but I must have heard wrong. A real shame as before this I was gonna call this the best case since the Red Wall or even Furinkazan but now...not so much. Still a really good case though and still far better than a number of other Heiji cases.

But I actually REALLY enjoyed this Detective Boys episode more. Unless this also has a notably dissappointing ending too, this really confirms what I've thought for a while that Gosho has remembered how to make good DB cases again. No police anywhere, just the Detective Boys in a somewhat creepy house with the culpirt. Some clues to figure out what's happening, a nice old school sort of case. And my complaints about the Demon Dog ending aside, if Gosho did more stuff of the quality of these cases, the recent lack of plot development would be far less annoying.

BTW: Agasa's car is pretty awful lately. :P

Can someone try to create Alblazed Demon Dog for real by using ragged cloth, red LED light.

For creepy house DB entered, it's reminded me of Big Boo Haunt in Super Mario 64 such as Mad Piano.

Yeah, Mad Piano will eat them up, chew them up and swallow them up. And there is a movable coffin in Big Boo Haunt.

what a disappointment. this is the first case i've watched in a few months and after getting through the first two i was loving it. creepy atmosphere, interesting questions raised, nice homage to a classic mystery (though it did have a bit of the inflated body count problem of furinkazan).

and then it just collapsed. the pacing in the last part was just beyond horrific. it wasn't even that things happened predictably, it was that they happened in a way that completely and totally eliminated the dramatic tension- the whole prayer beads/fake latter bit was just a disaster, slowing things down and providing a really lame 'solution'. the saddest part of all though was when they reached the cabin.

"hmmm, someone should do something..."
"yeah, good idea..."
"nahh.... let's just stand here and wait for heiji and conan to jump in"

this case actually reminds me of furinkazan in a number of ways- stupid body count, forested hills as setting, use of folklore, falling off a cliff death, and prosaic motive.

also, seeing jd- post in this thread reminded me to post a screenshot of this classic example of the new animation style in action:

That's what I am thinking about when I saw the truth behind the trick. But knowing Gosho, he would not put a trick that is impossible but at least, near possible. I guess that would be the best way to create the "ablazed" trick and would be the most reasonable.

613 was not as bad as some say, or so I thought, the japanese folk story was really interesting and the resolution was pretty cool (except the culprit which didn't do anything exceptional for such a long case, unlike Seiji in the Moonlight Sonata or the freaky lady in the furinkazan).  Surprisingly enough, I prefered 614, the exact kind of DB case I'm fond of.

Just saw episode 613. Unfortunately, I guessed the culprit, but I still liked the ending since the murderer wasn't pitiful at all, unlike in many Gosho's cases. Hope there will be more such criminals in the future episodes. At least, in such cases there is no doubt Conan actually does something useful by locking the criminal up.

eh, there are only a couple of cases where i can think it might be in doubt that conan did something useful by catching the murderer (maybe none).

It depends upon the meaning that we put in the word “usefulâ€

Then why are the laws not enforced when those who later become victims kill innocent people? They are enforced only when somebody takes revenge for the deaths of those innocent people. If you never were in a situation similar to those who become murderers out of despair, you have no right to judge them.
By the way, the wrongs are not just alleged, but very much real, and the avengers don’t just “thinkâ€
