Gekiga in DC

Postby Baritsu Master » April 22nd, 2011, 1:28 pm

As an adult, I enjoy the gekiga elements of DC over the shonen.  I think I may have picked up on Ran's long-suffering love for Shinichi.  It is very much like Otsu's love for Musashi in the famous Samurai Trilogy starring Toshiro Mifune. Goshi has stated he is a great fan of samurai films. Mouri was a famous samurai clan, and there are a lot of old samurai ethics in the stories.  Does anyone else enjoy the more adult elements of the stories? DC isn't just for kiddies.

this would require the suffering to not be made void by YAY HAPPY/CUTE MOMENT at the end of any case that deals with it

What I do enjoy in DC is finding out the culprit's true motive for the crime. I also sometimes try to rationalize the culprit's behavior.

I take DC as a whole; I don't try to analyse it into parts, and embrace one aspect of the other (i.e. just because I am "mature" does not mean I'm going to foresake the "childish" motif in the series, per se). So the seriousness, the juvenility, the cunning, the unoriginality, the romance, and the sentimentality are all sides of a single die to me that has been rolling in every episode I've watched and every single file I've read. And that's what fulfils the criteria of being the favourite anime/manga of all time, in my opinion.

I'll agree that it has a good balance between adult and juvenile, just as it has  a good male/female dynamic in its plotting. Not just for guys, nor just for girls.

Unfortunaltely the drama in ShinxRan has faded through the years. :(

Yes, I enjoy DC and that it has adult things in it, remember the Coffee Murder case, where the girl jumped off the balcony? Now that was really... not meant for kids. ^^

I notice episode 96 has it all: infidelity, drunkenness, cursing, flirtation, and don't forget Conan's infamous motorcycle ride!
