Detective Conan 609 (White Day of Betrayal (part 2)) discuss

Postby kkslider5552000 » March 27th, 2011, 3:37 pm

This was a really weird episode, and not just because of the lack of sponsors and other stuff related to the problems in Japan. Almost all of it involving the White Day and the couples and stuff. Well first of all, I really enjoy that it wasn't just focusing on one couple and just had a bit of most of the couples (including Makoto, who now has had one line in the past 150 episodes instead of zero). It shouldn't be done that often but it's really nice and shows that these characters are friends and their stories exist outside of episodes that focus on them.

Case wasn't worth mentioning. It could have been worse, cool trick with the lemon swapping at least. But the interesting thing was the couples stuff. The case was clearly ending much sooner than usual just for that. The 30 seconds at the beginning before the OP was just bizarre but I guess that made sence considering the focus of the last few minutes. I really should have hated this and the girl montage made it seem like a parody of Detective Conan yet it was really cute and sweet at least. And I laughed at white cough drops. Also, drunk Midori is awesome.

I like the fact they're using more tracks from the 2007 soundtrack. Now if only they could use the old classics and darken the colors, that would be great.

Back to the episode, it was alright...I guess. The case felt a bit rushed, which is understandable considering all the romance stuff (which isn't what I prefer in DC). It was nice seeing Midori and Makoto indeed, I wish we'd see them more often and for more than "one line". Oh, and the reason the guy decided to commit suicide was a bit ridiculous. All in all, this case wasn't as good as the Bloody Valentine case (the pacing in that case was horrible BTW), but still correct.

Definitely both the motives for the suicide and murder were very weak.

But I personally enjoy the romance/comedy stuff. There are plenty of cases in the anime, like having time for pure character development/attachment.

Well, the Japanese usually have a large sense of pride when it comes to doing their work, and comments like what the victim said took a pretty hefty toll on the guy. But the reason for murder on the wife's part seemed a lot weaker than other murderers in cases. The victim didn't exactly drive her ex to kill himself on purpose, and he did seem resentful for doing so, I think.

But it was nice seeing the other couples. Drunk Midori and the Makoto scene were hilarious.

If you don't get it why that looks completely silly, it's not worth explaining.

It was like Gosho-san have been hired to create a mainstream White Day story that placed in Detective Conan universe. It could have been an AO.

I'm happy that we can progress to the next episode now.

I still love it and glad to have my weekly Conan dosage.

Yeah, if he had been the boyfriend's best friend and said everything he made was way to sour, then maybe. Instead, it was "This thing you made for this competition was to sour, ease it up a bit (so the lady can win)."

Then as for his murder, he confessed to her that he can't stand sour stuff because he feels like he is partially to blame for the suicide, and as such, gets physically sick by eating sour stuff. Thats pretty powerful regret and remorse if your body is doing that.

True, this case was in general a lot weaker than it could've been. It seemed like an average case up until the point of the culprit's explanation as to why she did it.
