Yeah, if he had been the boyfriend's best friend and said everything he made was way to sour, then maybe. Instead, it was "This thing you made for this competition was to sour, ease it up a bit (so the lady can win)."
Then as for his murder, he confessed to her that he can't stand sour stuff because he feels like he is partially to blame for the suicide, and as such, gets physically sick by eating sour stuff. Thats pretty powerful regret and remorse if your body is doing that.
