While the tech has changes overtime, that's (as stated before) just lazy continuity. It was the 90's so I think it should still be addressed as the 90's. DC has always had very advanced technology anyway, minus the video games which always look bad.

I'll agree, It takes place in the "Present". Whenever you happen to be watching. This question also ties into the timeline as a whole.

I believe the whole series takes place within Ran's/Shinichi's 2nd year in high school. I'm currently re-watching the series from the beginning and in ep 400 "Ran's Suspicion", she remembers a case from "6 months ago" that involved a pre-shrunk Shinichi. So, the previous 399 episodes happened within those 6 months. As crazy as it is, no matter how many Christmas/Valentine's/Beach episodes we see, it all takes place within a year.

We've actually only seen Christmas and Valentine's once each in the manga.  No holiday has repeated.  For the beach, just assume they make the most of their summer vacations.

BTW, I don't know what it's worth, but in episode 43, you see a calendar for the year "1988" (MK reference perhaps ?).

It was 490. and it's only 6-7 per detective per month. Floating Timeline seem to be the best answer.

Who called it "lazy continuity"*? The tech always being contemporary is not an attempt at continuity at all. It just reflects what actually has been said in the thread, the manga uses a floating timeline where the current manga story is set in the present. The seasons/weather depicted in a story also reflect that.
