many questions about Detective Conan!

Postby mel » January 29th, 2011, 9:55 am

Hi everyone, this is my first post here! While looking the DC anime I've wrote down a lot of questions which gradually got answered but some are left unresolved, so I would like to ask them to you.
I'm not a native English speaker so forgive me for any errors. If any of the answers are given by manga chapters already out, please don't spoil me anything because I've watched only the anime.

Read my last post please, some of the questions were already answered, thanks.
;D

mel wrote:1) Were Ethan and Hidemi Hondou in the BO at the same time or did she enter after her father's death (used as a demonstration of loyalty)?

They both infiltrate on the same time. Ethan first and hidemi later (originally, she become an agent just for 1 event only)
But because hidemi is about to be found out, ethan sacrifice his life.

mel wrote:2) Do we ever see a scene in which Shuichi recognizes Conan as being the boy with Ran (which he remembers being the girl that he met in New York)? Does he ever wonder if it is too much of a coincidence that he is the same boy that Jodie talks about?

Nope

mel wrote:3) Is it confirmed that Toichi Kuroba was the one that taught to Yukiko and Vermouth the art of disguise?

she only ask for his advice

mel wrote:4) It is unclear to me what Ai feels when a member of the BO is near her. Is it the smell or maybe the presence (something like a sixth sense)?

presence !!!
Ai is not a police dog! so dont make her smelling people! Image

mel wrote:5) Do we know how Yamamura got promoted to inspector?

Nope! but it have connection with movie 13

mel wrote:6) I have seen written Shin'ichi instead of Shinichi, Shuuichi instead of Shuichi and Kaitou Kid instead of Kaito Kid, which one is correct? I believe Shuuichi is correct since Jodie calls him "Shuu". As for Kid, in the DCW wiki, it's written Kaitou Kid while his real name is written Kaito Kuroba, which one is correct?

Abs. will answer this part! Image

mel wrote:7) Shinichi says a couple of times that he has been to Hawaii and that there he learned various things, like driving cars, boats airplanes etc., do we have more information about it?

Hawai is a training facilities for a future James Bond / Jason Bourne / Ethan Hunt / ect.... Image

mel wrote:8) I noticed that the anime has changed a lot:
are the changes in the drawing there because Gosho Aoyama improved/changed his style or did they change the staff of the anime?
the music has changed a lot, it seems that they have redone all the music in a more 'modern' way, am I the only one that noticed it? IMHO the previous music was much better.
last thing I noticed is that now each episode is sort of tied together with the next one, giving a sort of continuity feel.

It was 15 years.. so It evolve...

what others you expect them to be? even we evolve from Monkey to human!  Image

mel wrote:9) I have watched all the OVAs/movies/Magic Files/TV Specials and I know that they are non canon, but were they supervised by Gosho Aoyama? Do they have any related manga? I've never watched a drama before, do you guys suggest me to watch the DC drama? Excluding the manga and dramas, is there something left for me to read/watch? What are Gosho Aoyama's Collection of Short Stories?

have you read any DC special manga?

mel wrote:10) In episode 336, who moved professor Agasa's car out of the parking lot of the studio? Since Takagi stopped the two followers, why didn't Conan ask him their physical appearance? In the anime, you can notice that the driver has glasses (just like Billy) while the passenger has the same type of hat as Fusae Campbell, the next scene in which we see them, she doesn't have anymore the hat and is smoking, is it a mistake? Is her real name Kinoshita something (we don't know the name) or is it Fusae Campbell?

Image

mel wrote:11) I was looking at the anime episodes list on DCW wiki and looking at the manga source I noticed that sometimes they aren't in order, why so? What I mean is that the canon episodes do not air in order, which doesn't make sense to me.

They did skip and re-arange a lot. and they used to chose a great plot for new year 1 hour special and stuff!

mel wrote:12) I have watched until the last anime episode (602), now I would like to read the manga, from which chapter do I have to start with? Since I watched only the anime, will I be missing anything from the manga? In other words, what are all the anime-manga differences (even the small ones)? For example the episode in which Conan discovers Gin and Vodka's name is completely different. Are story arcs always in sequential chapters?

Chapter 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
didnt they teach you how to count in school? Image
it start from 1!

mel wrote:13) I know that the first Magic File is just a collection of 4 anime episodes, that means they were exactly the same as those aired in TV, nothing changed?

Image

mel wrote:14) Is professor Agasa's name pronounced "hakase" (or something similar)? That is what I hear in the anime. Or does "hakase" mean professor?

"hakase" mean professor.
You got it right! Image

mel wrote:15) I noticed that Ayumi often speaks of herself in third person, why so?

because it is cute. and many little girl do that!
She is so adorable, cute and lovely!!!...Arrrrg I love her Image

mel wrote:16) Does Conan say "oi oi" even in the manga? :p

Abs. will answer this part! Image

mel wrote:17) What model are Shuichi's, Chianti's and Sato's car? I believe Chianti's car is a Dodge Viper, while Shuichi's car is an American car, but I don't know which model. Sato's car seems similar to a Mazda MX-5.

Chianti drive a Dodge Viper
Shuichi drive a Chevy
Satou car is an Mazda - FC also known as Maxda RX-7. the best rotary car! (Check here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_RX-7)

mel wrote:18) Do the Japanese dubbers speak English 'strangely' on purpose or it's just their pronounciation? I'm referring especially to Jodie and Vermouth when saying "A secret keeps a women, women".

It was on British Accent! Image

mel wrote:19) Why does Azusa Enomoto's look change so many times? Does it change in the manga?

Who is him / her? i forgot. sorry. Image

mel wrote:20) Is DCTP a group of different fansubbing groups or is it a group itself? Why has the site the domain name of Samoa (.ws)? Or is it for World Site? Why don't you (DCTP) do the HD releases in .mkv format? I'm asking this because it would be great to have .mkv with softsubs as I use MPC-HC which gives better quality with subtitles (by changing the resolution, only valid for softsubs), not a lot of course but still noticable. This is not a complaint, I'm fine with your releases in .mp4 and I'm grateful since I could finish watching all the anime episodes thanks to you guys. :)

Jd- or Ginrei can answer this. i cant say anything about DCTP release Episode. Image

but yeah. soft sub is nice!!!!

1 Agree with xpon
2 When Jodie inform him about Kusuda and Akai ask her source. He did recognize Conan from his name ("That boy again?"). Akai see Ran with Conan in the end of Contact with B. So Yes Akai remember him. Bu just met Ran in Newyork does't necessery to connect her with Conan (Since Akai saw no Conan or Shinichi in Newyork)
3 Yukiko said in Newyork case that she and Sharon learn the art from a Japanese magician and in "Shinichi childhood adventure" show she went to meet and learn from Toichi.
4 She said it is "scent" (smell). but the way they show it look more like presence.
5 There're some detail given in a manga case (Kappa?) but it won't made to the anime since the Anime change the story into promote in Movie 13 and confirm it in "The Witch yeilding in the fox".
6 Shuu, Kaitou are match with original Japanese word. Alphabet for "Shu and for "U" and Alphabet Ka+I+To+U but Shu and Kaito represent the sound enough.
7 If you have heard about Canon-non canon. It is easy., the thing in Movie never happen since it is not written by Gosho and not connect with the main plot. He only say Hawaii in the Movie. and Yes, even in movie they did not give him back sotry about it.
Look this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deus_ex_machina
or
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Asspull
8 Agree with xpon again.
9 Consider your style of wathching. I advice to wacth it (the live drama) (I enjoy it). But I am a canon freak now.
10 Not quite understand about Agasa's car, maybe himself. Why Conan don't ask it? Plot hole? There're some mistake about the two appearance-Yes. I heard Chek said somewhere that the anime mess up with it and reduce the Billy-Fusae lookalike shadow to be mere suspect shadows.
11 If the two in 336, are actually Billi and Fusae. This is probably the big error ever in skip and re-arange episode.
12 Yes. reading it all- or no reading at all. Well if you can find all the list about manga-anime difference you can just watch the differing case.
13 probably as xpon's emoticon said since I never get a hand on that episode.
14 And Hiroshi's Kanji also readable as hakase. So it a pun.
15 It's considered cute when girl refer to herself that way. I find some Japanese Idol-singer do this and find it cute.
16.??? also wander. I feel I heard but not remember I heard.
17 Skip
18 I thik they do their best.
19 She is anime original character.since her involvement with the plot is slim so it easy for anime people the change her. Aoyama just pick up certain look and put her in the manga.
She's the Cafe Poirot girl anyway
20 Skip, not my write to answer (and prrbably can't anyway, I even didn't finish the question)

Part two
1 First question-their talent. Second. - not even remember it!

Nope, what do they talk about?

It is like original Conan but the drawing is different and the story is not that nice.

mel wrote:As for the manga, I would love to start reading from chapter 1 but I don't have the time, and even if I had I think it's very difficult to find all of the chapters now.

well then start reading from manga that havent been made into anime! Image

In my humble opinion (someone coughAbs.cough help me on this), Shin'ichi is used because in Japanese his name is written with two characters (I'm not sure if they are both kanjis) and with Shin'ichi they want to point this out, od knows why.

As for Kid, his nicknames as the thief are Phantom Thief, KID, Kaito Kid etc.. Kuroba Kaito is the real name of the 17 year-old guy. Since "kaito" can be a name and the Japanese word for "thief" too (but written with different characters) people often get confused, but when you say "Kaito Kid" you say "Thief Kid", where as Kuroba Kaito is just a name.

mel wrote:3) Shinichi says a couple of times that he has been to Hawaii and that there he learned various things, like driving cars, boats airplanes etc., do we have more information about it?

Nope. Only that his father helped him.

Not really, as far as I know. Gosho set some rules out, like onan can never ever cry, unless he amkes im cry in the manga. And there were a few other things, which I cannot recall, but otherwise the anime team did what they wanted with the anime, that's the reason they are not canon.
You can think of this in this way: The anime is the animated adaptation of the manga, just like certain movies, for example Batman, Superman, Spiderman etc.. are adaptations of comic books.
The dramas are... *shivers* . A true fan watches everything, but... *shivers more* If you have seen a Japanese drama, expect the same. If not, prepare yourself. The dramas are further from the manga than any Anime Orginals (non-canon episodes), movies or anything of Conan. I think they are good for a watch, you can laugh at Kogoro in the drama and in my opinion the second drama is not that bad at all. so, try them. If you are disappointed with the first one, I still recommend the second. It has good moments. And some fail moments too. The characters are "out-of-character" the story is wacky.

This is a though one. I also would suggest you to read it from the first chapter. It seems very-very long, but you can read all of them (a little search on the internet will help), and it's worth it. Really.

The anime, mainly at the begining, changes a lot of things, skips a few scenes etc.. There should be a topic about the differences between anime and manga around here, check it out. If I can I'll post the link here.

I'm replying to the part about the name spelling. Ok, part of the reason why Shinichi is sometimes spelled as Shin'ichi is for the reason Mizstina has already explained. Shinichi is spelled with the kanji 'shin' as in new and 'ichi' meaning one. Many people seem to think the 'shin' part means truth but I'm not going to go into all that. Otherwise we'd have ourselves a possible flame war in the making. Anyway.... the second reason could just be due to the American release of Detective Conan under the title of Case Closed. The subtitles on the Case Closed dvds have Shinichi spelled as 'Shin'ichi'. The third could just be to point out the syllables for the name Shinichi.

As for the Kaito and Kaitou thing, Kaitou as in Kaitou KID means phantom thief and is written with the kanji for phantom/apparition and thief. Kaito as Kuroba Kaito is written with the kanji for 'pleasant or comfortable' and 'ladle' (odd choice as far as names go); one reason Kaito and Kaitou are spelled differently is because they mean different things. Like Misztina said; it's to avoid confusion.

One of the better explanations for Shin'ichi vs Shinichi that I have found is that it denotes that there is a stop between Shin and Ichi. Simply put, it's not shi-Ni-chi, it's shin-ichi. In the same note, if you read the Kindaichi case files, Kindaichi can be written as Kinda'ichi. Probably the reason it isn't is because it looks like Kind of Itchy in English!
