Well I suppose I have nothing against this couple, but I prefer Hakuba x Akako and Ai x somebody else (I don't mind Ai x Mitsuhiko at all). And I don't support Hakuba x Akako without reasons.

First, like some already said, Hakuba belongs to the Magic Kaito world. He only appeared twice in DC: Gathering Detectives and Trap Island, and I don't count Movie 10 as three, because it isn't canon and there was actually no Hakuba there (at the end it revealed that Kid stole Sonoko's ID and disguised as Hakuba). Therefore it is hard for a "guest" like him to be someone as important as Ai's boyfriend. I'm quite certain that if Aoyama comes back to Magic Kaito one day, he will let Hakuba be single or in love with a girl in that fandom (and there goes Akako).

Second, I don't know why, but I have a feeling that Aoyama created Akako and Hakuba for each other. I think that 20 years ago when he started Magic Kaito, he made two male protagonists, a thief and a detective (Kaito and Hakuba), and he also made two female ones (Aoko and Akako). Aoko is Kaito's childhood friend aka love interest, and well, I think the "Aoko and Kaito like each other, Hakuba likes Aoko and Akako likes Kaito so Hakuba and Akako end up with each other in the end" story can happen (it is a popular motive, really).

And there is a thing that I find interesting. In Magic Kaito Vol 3, File 4 Akako's Gift, Page 12, when Hakuba and Akako met for the first time, he asked "Is this girl in this class too?", so they must have met each other before that. Well, now (after nearly 20 years) maybe Aoyama already forgets how he planned their first meet, but it still shows that he made those two connected with each other in some ways.

I still can support Ai x Hakuba, but I don't like it to be too rush. If one day Aoyama decides to pair these two, it can be like "Ai and Hakuba meet each other for the first time" and story ends there. I would love an ending like that.

... Actually, I think quite the opposite.

Akako doesn't seem right for Hakuba.

Hakuba needs a serious person to hold him down; to battle his obsession with KID by logic and facts- while maintaining coolness and keeping a handle on their anger.

Haibara seems to fit the bill.

And seriously- Akako and Hakuba do NOT go well together. *Shudder*
