I guess I'll just post my review of both the song and the opening. Prepare for a long review I'm sure none shall read =P
Song~
tear drop ~ Caos Caos Caos
Wow, I'm kind of glad they went with a new group, we got a pretty original song that doesn't blend into the crowd, it's kinda rock pop girl I guess, with a more original beat, the only comparable song is Movie 13's PUZZLE, and I think this is much more fun to listen than that one.
The song lyrics itself is nothing groundbreaking, it's a love song, it does contain the word mystery... that's good right? Actually as far as songs go, it's use of English was well enough I guess, overall I think the lyrics even translated might work well in a English song version, at least it feels catchy enough where I might see myself being able to say the lyrics to the tune of the song.
So overall I'd say it was an enjoyable experience, sadly, that's not where this ends... onto the opening animation.
Opening 30~
Shiraishi Nori may be a good artist, but it just feels weird when the singers become part of the opening, sure giri giri chop was a great song, but it felt like wanted a music video more than an opening to an anime, and this kind of falls into the same problem. But I'll touch more on that in a few.
As it opens we get a nice beat with Conan on the board, nothing special, but it worked together to make it seem like some epic was coming, but not so much really. In fact before the music you really have no idea what kind of song is about to start, props to the music on that.
The next part is a replay of a pretty famous scene, but nothing people are dying to see, kinda boring and takes up a lot of screen time, in fact yeah, I'd say this opening is padded to heck with longer than needed scenes. Next are face shots, that I really couldn't tell you were new or not, they use those so much they almost seem invisible. So then it pretty much goes into a run down of the most cliche shots of openings, a best of really. =/
Now for this part, It was pretty odd to see the figure girl dancing, but original! So cool, points for that, sadly it feels overused even before the song is over. That said, it has some good shots and the sparkles really do work well with the song, and had they added some Conan Cast dancing with her, this would have been freaking awesome, but they don't do that. Instead it's Shiraishi Nori (who I believe is the girl based on a song credit of tear drop I found online).
Oh, Notice the huge banners at the side? It's almost like they felt they had to put that there so people knew what the heck they were still watching!
Kid, I think the anime staff so desperately want to work on Magic Kaito for a season that they take every opening as a chance to have him appear to show he's still awesome. I really should re-watch that Kid special...
More cliche stuff that feels like it's burned into your brain. Oh and more Shiraishi Nori, and when I say more, I mean more! Okay, what the heck, am I watching an 80's music video made on some guy's laptop in a weekend or am I watching DC!? Together she appears for 23 seconds of a 2:33 minute opening, but I think it's how she was used, it felt like the second part, which was about half of her appearance, was them getting lazy and saying "Hey, let's make her split screen!"
And again, why not have the DC girls dancing with her!? That seems like a perfect chance to make a really good scene.
Now the worst part, Besides Conan/Shinichi and Ran, what characters appeared during the opening... Kid and Shiraishi Nori, That's it! The group shot at the end doesn't really count, but it was lacking even in that.
This makes Kid's odd opening cameos feel like even more of a joke, he had zero purpose appearing besides to look cool. Oh and here's a hint, "Shinichi and Ran aren't the only couple!" Why wasn't that others shown, it would only make a love song more powerful if you showcased all the romances, which is where Kid could have fit in with Aoko, ect. No, what we get is an opening almost comprised of the filler other openings use, and Shiraishi Nori dancing (well animated dancing, but something totally unrelated to the show).
And the group shot at the end is bare bones, but at this point, they did just feature the entire cast for most episodes, so... =/
Oh yeah, so the most original and best thing to look at is, you guessed it...
DCTP's Karaoke, yup, that was the most interesting thing in the whole opening, and obviously took more creative thought than the opening. Sure Shiraishi Nori dancing is pretty cool, but who really cares, I like your song, so please get out of the opening visuals, you are cute and all, but you don't belong, well, alone, like I said they should have had the DC girls dancing with her.
So yeah, Hate the opening, love the song.
