BONUS Discussion Thread 5: The Haunted Apartment case thing

Postby kkslider5552000 » December 2nd, 2010, 3:52 am

Wow...just wow. It's rare Gosho writes a case that is even close to bad but this...there was just something terrible about this. So much that even at 3:30 in the morning I need to rant about it. Hooray!  ;D

Sure, I could complain about how unneccesary some of the tricks seemed, how many of the plot points of the case should/have been used so much better, how Ran's fear of ghosts was forced down my throat to the point that I never want it brought up again or how the setting was just painful and ugly (although I admit, that was clearly done on purpose). But even considering all that there were good things about it and it isn't like this is bad AO levels of pain. Even the trick wasn't bad in some ways.

But man there was something just painful to watch about this case. And the more I think about it, the more I hate it. It was such an ugly case that it felt like time was moving slower just to piss me off and make me watch more of it. The fact that I can't even figure out why makes it really annoying as well.

I mean I've seen the Blue Spark of Fail. I've seen the Detective Boys lose what little character they had and be put into the most "I don't care" cases where they do nothing but actively annoy everyone watching. And I already know about a short case that can't, CAN'T, be good that will probably be airing sometime next year. And yet this case that shouldn't be that bad at all...has to be the worst thing Gosho's ever done. I mean I just don't know.

Yo, I'mma let you finish, but this case is one of the best of all time.

Well, not really. However! I do like it and am not nearly as offended by it as you seem to be. I liked that it promoted the skeptical angle foremost and definitely consider it better than most of Gosho's recent output (personal opinion alert for those that can't seem to separate Jd-'s Opinion from DCTP's Opinion). This case had some adventure and personality to the setting, which is something that has become more and more scarce with time.

oh god just no. You're not seriously saying that. I'm not gonna say Gosho's stuff lately has been brilliant (and admittedly the manga might have become incredibly terrible lately I don't know?) compared to his earlier stuff but suggesting that anything more than half of Gosho's new cases (and I'd argue with even having half) is worse than this painful, unappealing, ugly, poorly executed, annoying excuse of 40+ minutes of animated programming is just...wrong. I mean my god. I'm actually hitting myself.

But seriously you might as well say Gosho has sucked at detective cases since...*shakes head* what? Anywhere, anywhere from two-fn-thousand to 2006?! YEARS?!

You know if I end up in a mental hospital someday...you'll know why. Actually no, because THIS CASE SUCKS AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW EXACTLY WHY! EVEN AFTER EXPLAINING WHY! HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?! (I'm being a bit less serious about this last part but I would like someone who is probably way better than me at long discussions to figure out why because that would really help a lot)

Yeah, I mean... t-that's... crazytalk! Moving on!

My only complaint with this episode is that it didn't last long enough.

I had already seen this case a couple of years ago with the bad subs, and despite seeing it for the second time, I enjoyed it just as much (even more given the proper subs). Yes, Ran's fear of ghots and bugs got ridiculous at times but I love the atmosphere in this case, I think the tricks are well thought and the case is refreshing as we don't face the usual murder but some kind of supernatural phenomenon. Gosho should think about writing more cases like that, he does it well.

Actually, Given the other much worse supernatural phenomenon case, this one is freaking gold... It was fun to re-watch this one with better subs.

But really, It was okay, different, and actually interesting.

Yea, better subs. That was a plus for me.  ;D I also thought is wasn't OC like some of the other recent stuff, like all of the characters acted normal....but I have to admit, it seemed to move slow for me too. It just didn't seem....well, unique. It seemed done before somehow. It needed some spice. Something was missing....
