Finally got some time to watch this episode. I didn't read the manga files of this case because it didn't look so interesting back then.

Anyway, this case was way too obvious and easy to solve (aside from the japanese word play, but that's beyond my knowledge, but it was easy to figure out it was Shinji since he had nothing to do with monkey or nine, unlike the other two. Gosho is become a bit too obvious.)

The japanese wordplay isn't a proof to begin with, it was just a way to figure out who the culprit was.

Actually, considering the fact that this person had something to do with the rooster (unlike the others) was the best clue.
Aside from that, by regular standards, that wordplay is a bit too complicated to begin with and no officer would arrest you just because your name happens to have something to do with the hints that the victim gave before he passed out.

Well yeah.  But it was the button and subsequent interrogation of the hospital man that would have done the culprit in if he hadn't done the evil failstermind "yes i admit to the whole evil plot and this is how it's going to go so you'll know how to foil it" thing.

So I'm catching back up after kinda skipping out on watching DC for a month or so, This case was OK, but did anyone besides me think it was a bit insulting to Ran's Character? When did she become THAT weak-willed that a stupid piece of paper would make her A) Not stop a purse snatcher and B) Not beat up those punks.

She's never been that insecure before, even if she is in love with Shinichi. It felt like forced drama to make the plot work. =/ It was nice to see her have ore screen time I guess, but I ended up feeling like I didn't want to see her because of the plot. And the biggest mis-step was making her hear the real fortune before beating random baddie 100002030. It felt like the final insult that she didn't even get a chance to be resolved in herself, then have the fortune confirm she was right in her action.

Besides that the case was painfully obvious, and the only slightly original points were the festival setting and the victim living, which has been done, just not tons of times. Not to mention the other two "suspects" were almost insulting in how obvious the weren't the killers. A monkey face dude and a nerd? Why bother having them at all if they only served to pad out the episode by talking for a bit. The DS was funny to see, maybe he was playing the Dragon Quest game? That seems to be the hottest game with file sharing features lately.

Otherwise one of the worse cases I've seen in a long time, sadly. Even the spin kick of doom couldn't save it.

That's true, I guess her love for Shinichi is strong and makes her believe that a love fortune would determine their relationship

5. Heiji and Shinichi KNEW EACH OTHER IN MIDDLE SCHOOL ISN'T THAT FUNNY (also some yikionno case and the last appearance of their parents ever, that was nice at least)

1. Every Detective Boys case between Eisuke's first appearance and Clash of Red and Black except the 1 hour special and I guess the Star Wars parody one. (Detective Boys with the annoyance turned up to 11. Lovely.)

Granted there's one I'm dreading a bit later but for now...*sleeps*

Sonoko is cool when she's acting as the deductress queen, but when its just her and Ran giggling about love and poking fun of her and Shinichi (and Ran being like "omg, I don't like him!!..._>") it's pretty roger jolly if you know what I mean.

Also, Conan does the typical 3-Ran inner voice yell in this episode!
"Ran...Ran....RAN!"
