Haibara's figure

Postby c-square » June 28th, 2010, 11:32 pm

I really get annoyed when they draw Haibara's figure like this:
Image
(Her body is the one in the middle)

What's with the bust and hips?  She's a 10 year old girl, for crying out loud!  It's really annoying because it's obvious that they're trying to draw her as a small woman, and not the girl that she is, and I can't help but wonder if there's an underlying attempt to sexualize her character in some way.

What do you think?  Have you ever thought that they draw her more developed than she should be?  Does it, or would it bother you too?

This was discussed a long time ago in the Ai+Conan thread...
YES, THAT'S NOT THE BODY OF A GIRL.

Yeah, I've noticed that she's drawn way more developed than a 7/8 year old should be. It doesn't bother me too much, well for now.

yeah, it's a bit odd but really, they could explain it away by saying "aptx lol"

the real test of whether she's being sexualized or not is when the hot springs episode comes out, and we see how they handle that one panel. :P

Figure is often the only way to figure out some characters' gender in anime.

But that is far less true in Conan so I don't get it.

This was a big problem when she first showed up, then it seemed to go away for a while, now they seem to randomly mess it up.  I don't know what part of "she's 8 years old" is so hard to understand on the other side of the pond.

If you want to blame someone, blame the 40+ year old man with glasses who created that figure for her and has made a habit of placing sexual undertones on her character. Out of memory Haibara has had a underwear & shirt hotel scene, a pantsu(?) scene, an imagery bubble bath scene, and a out of the shower t-shirt scene. The anime team is just doing their job by following what Gosho has laid out(to an extent). Haibara herself is a character made to sexually portray children as she is shown as a little girl with the mentality of an adult(common thing in animes these days).

So yeah, she is being portrayed as a sex symbol but that's all Gosho's doing who is catering to an audience that likes that sort of thing. And don't get me wrong, I'm not pulling out the "Japan is loli" card here as the rest of the world is as guilty though they may express it in a different way. For example, in the Western fiction, children(movies, novels, etc) are usually portrayed with the intelligence of an adult, experience of an adult, and/or the vocabulary of an adult all to make them seem much older and therefore more relate-able to adults.

But to answer your question: Yes the old man is exaggerating her physical appearance and it use to annoy me but I just have blocked it out...like many many many other things..oh like so many other things.

For some reason, I found that additional bit of description to be quite amusing.

"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

Everyone knows that glasses makes people a bit perverted just as putting on/off glasses is the best disguise ever.

Her figure bothers me, but I've stopped seeing it most of the time now.
edit: thinking about it, doesn't Ayumi look to mature sometimes as well?

I read in a health booklet thingy that when girls are at the age of 7, the body starts maturing.... but not that much lol.

And I tend to ignore that really, seeing how I freaking matured 2 years earlier than anyone else my age. :D

Maybe they do so to remind people that she's actually an adult.. [s]as if we would forget.[/s]

And wow, I just noticed that her outfit in Episode 577 is the same as in Movie 4.

Since Haibara´s first appeared in Detective Conan, Aoyama draw her with boobs and sexy hips, remarked for the clothes that she used :-[. In fact Haibara used the same clothes in her first manga file and in her first anime episode –episode 129-.

A weird fact is that Ran and Haibara used this same clothes in differents episodes and manga files ???, only whith diferent colors. Ran used this clothes in file 36, and 204 and  Haibara since file 176. Now, is obvious that Ran´s boobs was remarked with this kind of sexy clothes :-[, but Haibara is supposed to have a 7 years old body and she have –at last in the begining- the same body that Ran (in a short-tiny version of course) ;D.

Anyway, about Haibara´s panty flash in the beach hotel :o, to be fair with Aoyama, he do this kind of scenes every now and then ;). Ran have so many panty flash scenes :o, and even Sonoko and Kazuha show her panties at laest in one manga file.

And about Haibara Hair, looks like more “lightâ€
