Pretty bad, as would be expected from an AO. The phone "trick" was pretty hilarious.

I knew I was gonna end up watching this a couple hours later. (I hate not sleeping :()

This episode of Conan was brought to you by Bandai only. Somewhere, the older people at Namco are crying at how far they've fallen.

This episode desperately needed to be 2 parts. At least half of it was hilariously rushed.

Yeah, the setup and the ending both happened really fast. The only thing that was paced normally (for an AO) was the interrogation process.

Compared to the worst AOs of the 500's, I guess it wasn't that bad. The trick (provided you can really call that a trick) was quite lame though (almond, recorder....very classic) and the episode was boring as hell until the last few minutes which should have lasted much longer.

The writers have failed me. The Haibara lookalike card should have been used for something much better than this case, but now the writers can't use it anymore. tbh I expected this concept sooner or later, but the writers weren't smart enough to handle this concept correctly.

But there was already a Haibara lookalike case.

Nearly every major character has had a lookalike (or almost-lookalike) if you count all iterations of DC (manga, movies, OVAs, AOs, etc.)

Shinichi:  Every cool character, period.
Ran:  Aoko, the princess in Lupin v. Conan, the lady whose boyfriend tried to kidnap her and drown her with the flood...
Kogorou:  Mouri Kogorou's imposter
Sonoko:  Looked like Miyano Shiho in that one movie
Genta, Mitsuhiko, Ayumi:  The Osaka OVA
Haibara:  The Amemiya Shouko girl with the kittens
Takagi:  Looked like Matsuda when he disguised himself; also the Wedding Police Story
Satou:  Kobayashi.  Also you could argue that Satou and Yumi look alike since they stood in for each other standing in for the bride in Wedding Police Story.
Yumi:  See above.
Kobayashi:  Satou.
Yuusaku:  Toichi.
Toichi:  Yuusaku.
Okino Yoko:  Ikezawa Yuuko.

Gin/Akai
Vodka/Camel
Jodie/Vermouth
James Black/Ano---oops LOL j/k

Shiratori and Megure:  Conspicuously absent
Eri:  Also conspicuously absent.
Agasa:  Hmmmmmm
Yukiko:  ???

One of these days, the almond scent is going to be because the victim was actually eating almonds.

So...I guess the knife wounds weren't that bad? Since the guy that got slashed in the back was walking happily with his girlfriend an hour later?

Sudden landslide 2 minutes before the ending theme. Always a good choice.

Hearing the Hotaru Koi song brought back memories, though. When I was student teaching, I taught it to my elementary students with a circle game.

I agree that it felt sort of rushed, but if this was made into two parts I would feel cheated due to how glaringly simple the trick was.

Using a recorder to create an alibi for an earlier murder? After 576 episodes of DC I would have never thought of that!

The recorder was one thing, but the phone trick seemed so much worse to me. It pretty much instantly gave away that guy as the killer.
