A question or two

Postby SnakeBlue » June 24th, 2010, 4:35 am

I have a question, how many people here know the term "willing suspension of disbelief"?

The reason I ask is simply because so many people keep complaining that some things just don't make sense about Detective Conan.
I don't object to the complaining, I do alot of that myself, I'm just curious how many people know the meaning of the saying.

Read this after you answer please.
Spoiler:
Willing suspension of disbelief is simply the ability to look at something that doesn't make sense, like Conan never getting older, and dismissing it as not actualy important. (If the details that don't make perfect sense were important to the story we would know by now.)
There is more to it, but I'm not good enough with words to explain it all.
please, just call me Snake if the full name is too much.
(surely that's not too much to ask?)

Yeah, It's a pretty common sense, but eh, I tend to belive it's trump by, "willing rush to complain"

You kinda have to have it to get around him becoming a kid again in the first place.

The term also known as "it's called fiction for a reason"?

That said, given the amount of research and science that goes into some of the manga, I suppose people can be forgiven for expecting a given level of realism.

You could always use "just repeat to yourself it's just a show, I should really just relax."

I asked the question and now that I have an answer I have nothing useful to add.
I'm very glad there actualy are others out there who do understand though. after the mass of crazy people I had to endure while trying to catch up I almost had no hope left that there was anyone who could grasp the concept. (I wouldn't have asked if there wasn't a tiny spark of hope left in me though.)
please, just call me Snake if the full name is too much.
