A question about episodes 146-147

I have a question about episodes 146-147:
Spoiler:
When Conan found out that the banker was responsible for the death of his wife even though he was at the police station at the time of the murder, how did he immediately understand that he acted alone and that some device was used to make the knife kill the victim without being directly used by a person? When somebody organizes a murder and doesn’t want to be there at the moment, he usually hires someone else to do the dirty work. If the man was responsible for the murder, but was not there at the moment, the most logical solution would be that he hired a contract killer to do the job. But Conan didn’t even consider this possibility and understood immediately that the banker did it himself, even though nothing suggested that initially. Why is that? What do you think?

I'd have to re watch the episode but I'm pretty sure it was because of the weird way he was acting. Conan can usual tell by peoples gestures that they are the murder and as for how he knew that their was a trick well...there had to be...kinda impossible to kill someone so far away when he's right in front of you.

Lemme think... at the time when I watched that I was paying more attention to how cool Takagi, Sato, and Shiratori were. Setting aside the possibility that Conan is so used to tricks being used that he would assume there's always a trick involved (as that breaks the fourth wall a bit), I suppose a trick would be preferable to having anyone else know that you're a murderer, even a hired goon.  That's what pops into my head now anyway, it has been a while since I saw that episode.

By the way, a question about the series that doesn't have to do with a character liking another character?  Awesome.
