I don't profess to have an understanding of the Japanese justice system, but can someone explain how that trial was NOT a mockery of justice?
The defendant was guilty of murder; however, the trial for the hit and run was neither the time nor the place to essentially coerce the defendant to confess to the murder. I see no reason why it had to happen during the trial so that the prosecution could launch a trial for homicide.
Eri's (and by extension Conan through Kogoro) ethics should be called into the question for using her role as the defense attorney with the intention to team up with the prosecution to put pressure on the defendant so that she would confess.
What were the judges thinking in allowing this to happen?
