I'm not sure about the whole "breathing" thing, but I think Borealis was getting at the fact that Conan (to the world, a seven-year-old mind you) constantly trumps the police force when it comes to tracking down Kaitou Kid. So, Borealis wants Aoko to come in and talk/scold/something Conan for making her father look so incompetent that a seven-year-old can do better than his police forces.

..... Good luck with that. XD I think at most she'll get kidnapped and even then I'm doubting she'll be involved in the whole end BO story at all. :-/ Gosho would be a better writer if she had more relevance and people would like her more- but she's the damsel in distress girlfriend.

I think it'll be more like one of those "Wife/husband stays at home when husband/wife goes off to war" kind of deal. XD I don't think sh'ell have much to do with anything. Kidnapped at best definitly.

It's a shonen manga after all! The main guy must be the coolest thing on earth. His girl is meant to be protected and saved. Though, honestly I would love to show Ran being more important than just a damsel-in-distress.

LOL? SHOUNEN is changing: Most shounens nowadays have strong girls that can beat most guys up but is weak emotionally and always cries(or falls in love with the guy and keeps having dere moments)

In reality, "girls that are saved all the time" are more evident in SHOUJO.

Personally, and Gosho may see it different, I really don't think that genre should limit what a writer does in a story. If they do...it becomes conventional, cliche and can actually worsen the quality  :-\ Back in the beginning, Ran was emotionally weak yes, but she actually did things, whether it be kicking perverts or telling Conan he was a bad boy for investigating crime scenes. Nowadays...she doesn't beat people up much and actually just kind of stands around. ._. To be honest, I don't even know what I feel about Ran anymore: how can I? She just stands there now, that's not much to base an opinion on.

As for the whole "damsel-in-distress" thing let me be the devil's advocate here (well, sort of) and say that it's actually mostly AOs and movies that have her being kidnapped. Any I can recall have all been an anime-only deal. I'm sure that it's happened in the manga at some point but if it hasn't happened enough that someone can say with absolute certainty she's been kidnapped in "at least" this many files than it actually isn't all that canon. In that aspect, I think the anime team sort of jumped the gun and made her more "save me!" than she was ever supposed to be. I think I can only recall something early on that wasn't even all that kidnappy: when she was drugged and almost drowned in the sink. ...though I don't count that much since it was random and only served to help the murderer establish something...rather than actually aiming to get Ran.

Pfft now that I think about it.  Sometimes when Conan "saves" Ran they are times that she wasn't really in all that much danger.  His freaking out during the summer mystery by Agasa and Ai is a good example of that.  Ai and Conan were freaking out that she was with a murderer while Ran just knocked the guy out with a swift punch in the face (lol).  The times that she was actually all alone and in danger (like getting shot by a sniper rifle), he was kinda passed out (lol).  I think Gosho did that because he doesn't want to draw Conan's reaction to Ran really getting hurt and/or Conan's reaction to not being able to really help Ran.  Gosho did say something about Conan never crying didn't he?

I know I mentioned this already.  But the next time Heiji calls Kazuha his little follower, someone needs to hit him for being an idiot.  Maybe Akako can set him on fire.  I looveeee Heiji but just...asd;lkfja;.

Exactly my point xD She's never really been in a situation (outside of AOs) where she can't handle herself or needs to be saved. It's funny how people forget that...and the one that remembers (the one with a horrible memory) is kind of "eh" when it comes to Ran. How does that work? xD As for Conan ever reacting to Ran actually being in danger, I'm still waiting for the day that Ai goes

"Oh, btw, your girlfriend saved me that one time when Vermouth took you away in that car."

And Conan goes...

...Well, I'd have to draw it to get the perfect reaction xD And even then, it'd probably take hours to perfect xDDD

This, all the way. ...Seriously, when they were hanging off that cliff and we never got to see what happened...Akako saved them. She must've, it's the only explanation.
