This applies to anything, anytime, anywhere:

Who cares?  If anyone thinks it's odd, they aren't going to remember you, they're going to remember the foreigner who's too old to look like a student watching an anime movie.  Just think of any stupid or embarrassing thing you've seen someone else do.  Do you remember who that person was an hour later?  Probably not, unless you already knew them personally.  So what does it matter?

Ginrei speaks with reason, worry less about appearances and more about enjoyment. Think of it this way, for every you, there's a person doing something much much much worse in public. Follow their example.

About enjoyment before appearances(don't break any laws).

Definately. Doing something that you feel is weird in public is worrying because you feel like everyone is watching you, but mostly they look at you, laugh, wander off, maybe tell a pal later about this weird person they saw today, and forget about you. The fun you can have when you're not worrying about appearances is so worth it. I speak from experience.

It's not the appearance, like I said, it's my age, and having grown up in a place where it's frowned upon for adults to go to animated movies without a kid with them is kind of hard to 'erase' from the system, ya know?  It's like I have to reprogram my mindset, especially since I'm nearing 30.

Joking aside, why would I do that, if it's not 'frowned upon' here for adults to go to animated movies alone?

I'm probably going to see it in theaters! I've never seen a movie here though.  I'm pretty tall though and I heard the seats have very little leg room... I wonder how that will work out :-\

Oh, and it's definitely not frowned upon here to go to an animated movie alone.  Plus, it's not like the people working at the theater would care.

(side thought:  what part of Japan are you in?)

I'm in Yamagata.  I have to go into work Saturday, though, but, I'll have the afternoon free.  I may try to go then.
