Animation Quality

Postby tanteibigbird » March 23rd, 2010, 6:57 pm

Don't know if this has been discussed before, but has the animation quality dropped through the years? I think the DC was at its best around the late 300 to early 400's, especially with the shadowing. Nowadays, it seems they don't even bother with it anymore.

It has been discussed before, but not in a specific thread. Yes, a lot of people would agree that the episodes near 400 were the best, even me. I think there was some kind of change in the drawing department at that moment...

I particularly liked the animation during the time when Start was the opening song of DC... If I remember correctly, it started mid 300's....

Manga's gotten better though, I don't really watch much so I don't know about that...

Its at-least better than it was when it started right?

It's much better than when DC started.

Oh definitely! I can't watch the first hundred episodes now without laughing. And to think I used to think that animation was good... *shivers*

It wasn't the best one for that time but wasn't the worst neither, i think it was just ok.

P.S: I remember that i used to dislike Heiji in the start just because how he looked like in the first Ep. he appeared (Ep. 47 i think) .... and i don't even talk about the first 2 or 3 movies.

Episode 48 is the first appearance of Heiji.

I dunno, I like the old art style. It's fun in a kinda retro sort of way.

The best animation ever in this series was Kaze no Lalala though.

I hated the animation style in those episodes. I preferred what you got from around 150-200 by a lot, something about the newer episodes just seemed off (also, I started watching those groups of episodes at the same time, via KazenoeKoe, so no, it isn't pure nostalgia).

The style for the newer episodes is to accommodate the need for bigger HD format I think.  I can't stand the animation lately, totally agree about the shadowing.  The maximum amount of colours they use is 2 for each particular object while before they would experiment with 2-3.  They were also more gutsy as to how much shadow to cast on a character's face (especially Conan's).

I almost can't watch some of the new episodes, especially non-manga based, because so little effort is put into some. My favorite part of the show was the 300s. Very good animation overall.

I still fail to see how animation quality even matters for Conan however. And I see far worse animation in anime pretty often (hell, look at certain episodes of One Piece in the early 300s 0__o)
