I would have done so in a week or so. Was still hoping for a cute Conan x Ayumi moment in the meantime. Ohh, well maybe while watching the latest anime episode. I remember one particular scene in the manga, let's see how they did it in the anime.

Now I am interested. Who is "someone else"? Well, there is only one other pairing including Ayumi that I would consider "interesting", and that is Ayumi x Haibara. 
But this is just a theoretical pairing, just wishful thinking. Just like Conan x Haibara.
But it is so much fun to think about it.

Actually, you are right. After all, it is rather obvious. However, I'm not one to let it go wild, as there's always the rational side of me pulling back from it...unless I'm extremely bored and/or tired.

Now your confusion got me confused... What do you not see? 

If it is about the "cute idol type", I can't really see it either. She isn't an idol. She might have the personality for it (especially in the beginning of the series, now Ayumi is a lot less outgoing and much more timid) and she is (extremely) cute - and movie 5 and OVA9 both indicate she will still be so when she grows up - but right now nothing hints that she would become an idol. Potential, yes. But she won't get the chance.
Or maybe I am wrong in that point. Maybe she can become a celebrity similar to Shinichi Kudô at some point.

Huh? I never considered Conan a "two timer dork". He seems quite loyal and faithful to Ran - considering he was quite famous and popular with the girls while he was still a teenager.
I think he would make a good boyfriend for Ayumi, at least once he accepts that there is no way of turning back permanently and that he can't force Ran to wait for him 10 years until he is grown up again. And of course once he realizes how good Ayumi would be for him.

Loli yuri is what makes it so interesting. I love pairings that are... difficult.
There is a special connection between Ayumi and Haibara, she is her best friend and their relationship is not taxed by guilt/regret. Ayumi accepts her unconditionally and this is why Haibara seems to feel so relaxed in her presence. It does not matter she can't tell her about her past, the only thing important is that she can be completely honest to herself as long as she is around Ayumi.

To bad it is so rare to read about them. Hardly any fanfiction is focusing on their friendship (or even mentioning their friendship) and even less suggest a romantic relationship between those two. Actually Claude le noctambule is pretty much the only author of such fanfiction I know... and too bad his/her fanfics are written in french...
