you don't announce a Magic Kaitou anime and then put the first chapter of Magic Kaitou in CONAN. WHY WOULD YOU ANNOUNCE AN ANIME AND THEN PUT THE FIRST CHAPTER FROM THE MANGA IT IS BASED OFF OF IN ANOTHER ANIME? That sounds like an idea from that awful Countdown comic book I often hear about.

Maybe they want to do the silly stories in Magical Kaitou (insert fish jewel and witches in drag here), and keep the more serious stuff in Conan.

Or, as Jd pointed out to me a little bit ago, it might not even really be an anime adaptation!  It could just be a 30min infomercial for Movie 14 hosted by Kid, which is apparently normally done by the Conan cast each year.

The thief manga mostly stopped (with only a few chapters being made in the past 15 years) because the author wanted to work more on the detective manga because of its huge popularity.
