Magic Kaito
[spoiler] ;DKaitou Kid - Kid(怪盗キッド) The Phantom Thief ,1412 (Kaito Kuroba)(黒羽 快斗)
KAITO æµ·æ–—, æµ·ç¿” (Japanese) From Japanese æµ· (kai) "sea, ocean" combined with æ–— (to), which refers to the constellation Ursa Major, or ç¿” (to) "soar, fly".
Kuroba: is a pun on the japanese pronunciation of "clover". That's why Kaito Kid has a little clover doodad hanging from his monocle.

The "Kaitou" (怪盗) in Kaitou Kid has a long "O". The "Kaito" (快斗) in Kuroba Kaito has a short "o". So, even though it's confusing in English, it's two different names, not inconsistent spelling.
And we all know that 1412 is a code to KID  8)
Kaitou means Thief  ;D

Most of the characters from Magic Kaito have color related names.

About Saguru Hakuba...his name translates directly to "white horse detective". Says a lot about who he is, doesn't it?

Thanks for the info ;)

Well, the direct translation of the kanji "saguru" refers to "search", and if you join that kanji with the kanji "tei" (å

No really Saguru means "to search". I think.

Though the meaning is the same in Chinese. ^^

Names and their meanings in DC

Postby soratothamax » December 4th, 2010, 7:29 am

I recently discovered from
http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Conan_Edogawa

That Edogawa Ranpo (the other person Conan was named after) got his name from the transliterated name Edgar Allan Poe!

And Conan's name pronounced "Konnan" means distress in Japanese. Can anyone think of any other names in the anime that have distinct meanings?

I know Conan's voice actress was in episode 81-82, which is why she used her real name.

Eisuke's name comes from James Bond translated into Japanese. And Eisuke Kaito a mystery writer.

EDIT: Heiji's name comes from Zenigata Heiji, a fictional Edo period police detective and the famous ninja and samurai Hattori Hanzou. Haha, no wonder he has a bad temper and is quickly able to fight. LOL He's like named after a ninja.

Shinichi means "one truth", though it's written with 新 (new, recent) and not 真(truth).
"I wonder if there really is a God...
If such an entity really existed, wouldn't all honest, hard-working people be happy?"

Old thread dredge, but I was thinking about the origin of the Miyano names since as far as I know no one has ever linked them to any classic literature characters. I decided to run with the assumption that Gosho intended them for some sort of clue rather than a reference to a detective. I noticed the names followed the solfège. Mandatory disclaimer: search long enough and you can find patterns even where none are meant to exist.

DO: Atsushi --> Tsushi as in 地 meaning earth; soil; dirt --> Do as in earth (recall this used previously in a BO code)
RE: Elena --> le = re in Japanese
MI: Akemi
FA: Shiho --> literally fourth step: take Shi as four (四) and ho as the counter for steps (歩)
