In my opinion, I think that either
1. he raped her
2. they were in a loveless sexual relationship but he loved her and she rejected him
3. it was one-sided on his side
4. Shiho and Vermouth had a love fight over him
5. he is only sexually attracted to her but she loved him.

weird but possibly true..
