Controversial Point of View: Is Haibara A Criminal or Not?

Post by HMJ999999 »

As a point of view, do you consider Haibara as a true criminal?

Since there is a controversy regarding this topic (Haibara is a criminal or not) it will absolutely affect her ending in the story.

If she lives after BO destruction, regains her original form, she may be ended up arrested and worst sentenced or punished seriously if she is considered as a criminal.

Although she didn't intent to make a poison in the first place, and wasn't her will to join this "piece of shit" organisation, since she was controlled and watched by them from her childhood with her sister.

But in the end, she ended up developing a powerful poison (unintentionally), and who knows if there were victims (other than kudo and Mary) were forced to take APTX4869 that was developed by her, and how many people were killed by her drug if not shrunk.

Assuming they even have to bring this up, I'd bet the FBI would be able to make a deal with her in exchange for information. Especially considering her young age (and not just in her current form).

agree with slider here. Her involvement with the BO will be covered up. Not to mention Shinichi and his Dad has good connections with the police/interpol, and of course there is the FBI, so it shouldn't be a big deal. Unless Shiho decides to give herself in to the police out of guilt. But as far as story endings go for any fiction, especially when the character is so popular as is the case with Shiho/Haibara, she will have a good ending. And that implies away from all troubles and leading a peaceful life.

I really feel sorry for her.. every thing she did was out of her will.. she was forced to work for BO and developing that piece of shit drug since her childhood.. it's unfair to enter the "white prison" after escaping the "black prison" !!

Technically she is a criminal but did she really have a choice?
The organization pretty much had the threat of death hanging over her most of her life.
From the anime and manga chapter in which she interacts with the FBI, I'd say its safe to say that the FBI will cover up her involvement with the organization.
After all she's too much of an asset to the FBI.

That said she will likely forever feel guilt over her involvement, she like the stereotypical character whos always trying to 'redeem' themselves.

So I reckon the FBI will make a deal with her, clean slate when its over in exchange for her help and information.

She is not a criminal for several reasons
1_ In order for the crime to be called a crime, the will factor must be present. Haibara did not join the organization, she has been in it since birth, there were no other options or other ways to live on, if she joined willingly, my answer was yes
2_ Parental role model/ The child derives his morals from his parents, his environment, and his family. For Haibara, the organization was the family. They chose her life path themselves. From a very early childhood she was sent to receive an education system larger than her. Imagine an 18-year-old scientist running a dangerous research. She received an education system appropriate for her age
3_ Haibara did not originally develop a drug to kill
She said this from her first appearance, there is no known victim of her drug, Shinichi was the first human experiment and shrink, the only victim is Haneda Koji who died because of her parents' drug, Karasuma wouldn't raise Shiho from scratch until she made him one that he already owns, the drug that Sherry was making Different from the property that killed Haneda Kōji, this was an inner monologue in Haibara so there's no way she's lying, the property isn't complete at all, are you going to court for a crime you didn't commit?
4_ Haibara is under the legal age
