Episode 883: The Pop-up Book Bomber (Part One)
-And then everyone exploded. The end.
-It is now "Pachinko Glasscastle" after that
-Wow, this woman didn't even try to hide her voice :V
-"Well, time to destroy the sewers underneath this park for children"
-Wow, I don't think I've heard this piece of music since episodes from when I was still catching up with the series.
-A bomb riding down the sewer. Not sure I've seen that before.
I had little to say about this episode, because it was unironically compelling for basically the whole time. Some of the riddles were cool for what they were, and I like the real threats of danger. Obviously not the first bomb case of the series, but this one has enough interesting to separate it from other ones I think.

Heiji's out on another one of his confession try-outs huh? He should just confess already, though i don't see that in the near future.

He's tried that already—more than once. Gosho just didn't want him to succeed in doing so.AKAI REI wrote:He should just confess already

Either that or he's just gonna make Heiji get frustrated enough to confess.

It's just a question of when Heiji will reach that point of content or frustration, then.Jecka wrote:I think Gosho's trying to find a place he thinks would make Heiji content enough.DCUniverseAficionado wrote:He's tried that already—more than once. I'm pretty sure that at this point Heiji's confession attempts became a running gag of sorts.AKAI REI wrote:Heiji's out on another one of his confession try-outs huh? He should just confess already, though i don't see that in the near future.

Episode 884: The Pop-up Book Bomber (Part Two)
-I hope this is a P&A situation, where the first thing I thought of (in this case, the letter "V") is the answer.
-Oh Kogoro basically dismissed that. Ok.
-Oh, I know. What if this riddle is vague on purpose?
-Three bombs for the price of one riddle
-"Wow! Were you surprised?" Not entirely, tbh. I don't think consistent explosions were gonna happen in places like this in a random AO
-IT'S LITERALLY THE NUMBER FOUR...APPARENTLY. BECAUSE THERE ARE SEVEN OF THESE. I GUESS.
-Holy crap, so much for no more explosions!
-I'm now hoping the rest of the episode is increasingly random explosions
That was a good case, I'd say. Maybe tried a bit too hard at a couple points, but it was enjoyable and pretty well paced, had a unique backstory. I liked it.

Episode 885: Solving Mysteries at the Poirot Cafe (Part One)
-There are few things that have become more predictable about this series than Heiji and Kazuha having to be in every pseudo-supernatural case ever, so I'm almost surprised when they aren't in a spooky setting.
-Kazuha basically just wrote her and Ran out of the episode. I think...
-"You always think there's love in the air, Ran-chan." I mean, that is completely accurate, to be fair.
-In this case, Gosho rambles on about what he learned about Friday the 13th for several minutes
-"You and I are just childhood friends" This is one of the few things more predictable than Heiji and Kazuha having to be in every pseudo-supernatural case ever
-I like how the blood is just casually on Conan's glasses now
-"Why does every case have to be so hard?" Well that's what happens when you have to fill in a half hour every week.
-'Is it a hospital movie?"
-"The victim's three friends or the guy who will clearly actually matter outside of this case"
-Yes, Amuro, I know what luminol is
-I would laugh if this guy's somehow related to that one-off Shinichi who died

I'm concerned about this new story arc with Ooka/Kazuha, it was already annoying in the movie. Hopefully we will not have many "Heiji is mine!" episodes...

Episode 886: Solving Mysteries at the Poirot Café (Part Two)
-Heiji is a dumbass.
-Is there a childhood friends drinking game for this series? There has to be, right?
-Conan, it's obvious your true identity is becoming less and less of a "secret"
-You just had someone say that poem dramatically out of nowhere, you can't just do it again a minute later!
-I was confused where we were for a second and for what reason. Almost forgot that Ran and Kazuha went somewhere...
-"I love you, too, Kazuha!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh, I wish. But seriously, I know where this is going but I just had to laugh that this just suddenly happened. Best out of nowhere plot twist ever, m i rite? I want to see an alternate timeline where that was actually where it was suddenly going, for various reasons.
-I want Conan to solve an entire case for a whole episode's length, only to awkwardly say at the end "THAT'S WHAT HEIJI-NIICHAN SAID ANYWAY!"
-...huh
-I'm not sure how this guy was worth that dramatic music? That doesn't immediately seem too threatening a character?
-OH OK! I WAS THINKING THIS POEM WAS REMINDING ME OF KARUTA CARDS, AND THAT WAS ACTUALLY THE POINT!
Ok, so the case was...I don't know. I feel like it was a good case with some really good ideas that was held back by a number of Gosho's least interesting cliches. But we've had plenty of locked room murder cases, but off the top of my head at least, I can't think of someone being killed in a group of people with only seconds of darkness concealing their identity. That's great! But the duller parts of Gosho's one-off character writing really hurt this one, as did an expectedly bland setting (despite or even because of being a recurring one). I will say though, this is certainly far from the worst example of "you stabbed me but I forgive you I guess!" I almost buy it to some degree in this case. Almost.
But I'm confused by the ending. So is this a case where we're just actively ignoring the movie continuity? Like usually Gosho just...sidesteps it without anyone noticing but considering I watched the movie YESTERDAY, it's really noticeable how bizarre it is that Momiji hasn't met Kazuha. I'd find it really disappointing if the movie is just ignored entirely since the movie gave her an actual character and semi-backstory.

Re: Detective Conan Anime Discussion Thread (Latest Subbed Episode: 881)
According to anime timeline, the Movie happens before this case, but reality of the matter is, manga chapters of this case happens before the movie, and they were meant to set Momiji up for M21. So in other words, the nue case and this poirot case can be seen as setup for M21, but M21 is not canon either way, so it doesn't affect the main plot (it just gives it more details that will most of the times never be brought up in the canon).kkslider5552000 wrote:But I'm confused by the ending. Loved the new year's greeting at the start of the latest ep. Too bad we can't see this self-aware humor more often.
