Random Poll of the Day Not Done by Kor (6)

You know how Conan keeps saying "I learn it from TV", when he explains knowledge to everyone. Well should "we" the audience say "I learned in a manga" as well. Is without a doubt that Gosho does his research when creating tricks in his cases. But how much of it its stretch a little bit to fit with the story. Should we take the knowledge from Conan with a grain of salt, yes or no?

Manga: Yes, with the exception of APTX and Agasa's inventions and any other thing that is clearly fiction
Anime: physics: no.

Some Yes some no. Some of the early stuff in the Anime/manga seemed probable.
Yes: some of the medical stuff maybe. Thanks to Conan I learned cyanide smells like almonds and Potassium cyanide is not soluble in water, and how to kill people.
...Wait, ignore that last part.
No:

Depends on what it is... The latest Heiji case in the manga had that non-newtonian liquid there which was interesting.

Some yes. A lot of the stuff involving chemistry (like the recent Tense Tea party case) were stuff we did in the lab and the case where Conan was stuck in the locked room where the water in the bottle was supercooled, we did it in the lab as well.
Then there's the physics in Movie 5 and the phone trick in Movie 12 and my mind goes @_@

Well, it's plausible in the video, but the circumstances in which Conan had to do it makes it hard to believe (the probability of kicking the phone from that angle in shot, the distance between their voices and the phone). But then again, it's Detective Conan so I should just brush it off. :V

I'd say research stuff yourself, nothing done in the manga save APTX and Agasa's inventions + a bit of Kid stuff is impossible, most of it is improbable, but not impossible.
Mostly all the murder tricks are possible, but they are very hard to do or require a bit of luck to do

Depends how you see it.
Because everything Conan is explaining that has to do with science is (almost) always correct.
How the "science" stuff is done in the crimes is mostly right too, just that the criminal will always succeed in pulling it off is not 100% guaranteed.
And Physics in Movies/Animation/Films is always exaggerated and thus wrong :V So that's not a Detective Conan only thing.

I heard Aoyama himself tests the tricks out before putting it in the manga.

Really? Most of the times the tricks make sense, but the trick used in episode 734/manga file 850-852 (Jodie's memories and the cherry blossom viewing trap) really gripes me. I am not convinced a stack of coins tied together by a shoe lace can beat a person to death, the shoe lace would never be taut enough to hold the stack of coins tightly together for it to function as a solid baton.

You could try it out yourself? XD Tie some coins
and beat someone to death.
But if the shoelace is strong enough and you tie it tight enough it should work.
