Episode 852: The Descent Into Hell Tour of Love (Oita Chapter)
-LOOKS LIKE CONAN'S BLASTING OFF AGAAAAIN
-That little branch just saved his life
-Oni mask wearing drone controller. That's a new one
-Takagi getting punched made me laugh
-""Don't punch my boyfriend" kick!"
-XD at the music dying
-Drone, ogre, same thing
This was a decent case, that had enough things I liked. But you know that a series has gone on for a long-ass time when "character is shockingly competent only to again not completely understand what's going on, lolz" is, in fact, a cliche now.

Re: Detective Conan Anime Discussion Thread (Latest Subbed Episode: 851)
Episode 853: Memories From Sakura Class (Ran GIRL)
-GIRL is cruise control for cool
-"There are no time restraints to starting over" I think this might not be true. People might...die. Or something. Especially in this series.
-"There are no time restraints" is probably something every published author like him wishes was true :p
-Yukiko sounds slightly weird, Yusaku sounds really weird. Is it just me?
-I like the implication that tiny Sonoko beat up this little kid
-The fact that tiny Shinichi acted like this makes me laugh and laugh. Its almost self-parody.
-Esper Conan is my favorite anime :v
-"Is she a lady spy?"
-Maybe its because I still have memories of a certain other "turn back into a kid to solve a mystery" series, but I'm suddenly concerned for these kids.
-Seriously, angry eyed babby Shinichi is the best.
-Ok, like 16 minutes in, is there even a real case to this? Like I'd be cool if there wasn't but I'm suspicious...
-Pwned by a 5 year old
-"Confess!" - a pre-schooler
-"You're an outsider!" PRESCHOOL NATIONALISM~!
-Shinichi used headbutt. It's super effective.
This episode was made of adorable. That is all.

Episode 854: Memories From Sakura Class (Shinichi BOY)
-So is Kor dead? Just wondering...
-Tiny Shinichi struggling to get away from his mom : DDDDDDD
-"I'll never wear glasses" Hahahaha...oh...classic irony
-Shinichi's one true weakness: raisins
-"I thought it was a morgue" Of course you would, Shinichi
-Shinichi's joy and blushing is adorable
-I like how Shinichi as a small child is deeply suspicious of people
-Huh, the story actually is continuing
-Wow, hype this guy
-This story suddenly became DAAAAAAARK
-So apparently his story is about Not Shiho and Not Carmen Sandiego. Cool.
I did really like this story, even if the dark twist wasn't entirely necessary. But at least it was a nice story that didn't have to over rely on a case. I think the main good thing to come from this part in particular was getting Shinichi's perspective. One of the biggest problems with Shinran's relationship is that nowadays Shinichi doesn't do enough to justify how sad he can make Ran, nor does he himself seem to hate that enough. So it is so appreciated that we really get his perspective, even as a kid. It kinda gives some perspective about why he acts how he does when he's older, and that he has an actual flaw, and that that's the point instead of "we're supposed to except this neverending not even starting relationship as ok, because reasons." Hopefully its the start of going back to when Gosho understood how to write these two.

Mind explaining? (Perhaps in PM so we don't derail the thread)
That's because Gosho's put it on the backburner, as of the past 6-13 years. Their relationship has been put on hold in favor of pretty much everything else.kkslider5552000 wrote:One of the biggest problems with Shinran's relationship is that nowadays Shinichi doesn't do enough to justify how sad he can make Ran, nor does he himself seem to hate that enough.
I think it's because he's put them on the backburner in favor of Bourbon, the Akais and Rum (just to name a few examples), not because he forgot how to write them or lost sight how to write them.kkslider5552000 wrote:Hopefully its the start of going back to when Gosho understood how to write these two.

I read it long ago and didn't remember this line so it took me by surprise. If I had soda in my mouth I'd spat it out. XDkkslider5552000 wrote:Episode 854: Memories From Sakura Class (Shinichi BOY)

What I liked about it that both episodes were true to Shinichi's and Ran's core character and it was a nice reminder of their relationship, unlike Shiragami/London cases.kkslider5552000 wrote: I did really like this story, even if the dark twist wasn't entirely necessary. It also gave an idea about their relationships to others, Ran being nice, considerate and helpful to everyone while Shinichi amazes them and is suspicious, not caring about what others think. Yet he is really an outsider and his brilliant mind (plus maturity) & that he is a mystery freak makes him alienated. In this episode it was nice to see how ShinRan makes sense.

I'm undecided if I agree or if I genuinely think Gosho has forgotten about how to write them tbh.DCUniverseAficionado wrote: I think it's because he's put them on the backburner in favor of Bourbon, the Akais and Rum (just to name a few examples), not because he forgot how to write them or lost sight how to write them.
To be fair, it is good that he put it on the backburner regardless. Abundantly clear he should only write the stories he wants to for them, instead of writing it just because there hasn't been a Shinran focused case in a while. (regardless of how you feel about it, you can tell he was genuinely passionate about the scenes in the London case, for example)

On one hand, what would convince you that the former is true?kkslider5552000 wrote:I'm undecided if I agree or if I genuinely think Gosho has forgotten about how to write them tbh.
On the other hand, what would convince you that the latter is true?

Re: Detective Conan Anime Discussion Thread (Latest Subbed Episode: 855)
Episode 855: Mystery of the Missing Black Belt
-Makoto, sadly not here for his rematch with Kid
-"I'M APPARENTLY SHY, I NEED TO BRING A SIX YEAR OLD TO SEE MY BOYFRIEND BECAUSE THAT MAKES SENSE" - Sonoko
-Originally I was gonna say this flashback for Makoto is more character development than nearly any AO ever. But I think this is the tie-in to the new movie. So instead, this is more character development than at least half of the movies. And yes, I do realize its just backstory, but just by having original backstory and trying to make it relevant to anything, my point still stands.
-I have a feeling it wasn't Makoto. Because if it was, he would say so or no one would be suspicious of him. Also, because it would be a crime committed by a recurring character.
-Actually, it had to have been that one kid, right? That's the obvious answer at least.
-Conan needs to be more careful about causing people to suddenly fall asleep.
-This is pretty up there for easy to solve cases tbh.
-Good timing, Sonoko
-UNIVERSAL
-WHY A HELICOPTER?! WHAT?!
-OH NO A TV STATION! (?)
-OMG THEY WROTE SONOKO OUT OF THE MOVIE IN THIS EPISODE. IS THAT WHY THEY DID THIS?! HAHAHAHAHA
This was a fun little story. Super predictable. Like, I bet the kids watching this figured much of what was going on. But still a decent, super obvious story. And Makoto and Sonoko improve most things. But that ending was...absurd. In a good way. I laughed.

Episode 856: The Socialite Couple's Secret
-First comment on Crunchyroll: "so after 850+ episodes, Mouri made no progress with what's happening with cases and there's very little progression with the main arc?"
Awkwardly, no one has answered his question.
-Nyan-chan? That's the name of your cat? Really?
-Their secret is that they DIIIIIED. This was a secret for some period of time, technically.
Well they made a semi-interesting idea for a case, and made me not care at all. Yep.
