That one 'foreign' bit was more talking about other slight changes in dialogue other posters were talking about (such as the Kaito Kid dialogue).GinRei wrote:But it's a line that's in english already. As for the Vermouth dialogue, I agree that it's pretty silly to change a line that didn't need to be changed, but it might have sounded weird to whoever was translating the comic (doesn't flow right, repeated word may be an error, etc.). It's most likely the interpretation thing I mentioned, only it would apply to any dialogue and not just dialogue in a different language.

What happened to Eisuke's "Uma uma" line then? Or nobody knows yet?

Re: V29 Vermouth's catch phrase changed!
Once again, I agree with this. While I will once again state that yes, it did not need to be changed, but in many different anime, there are random English words and when they are more than words and are actual phrases, they often sounds like foreign people trying to replicate another language.NotSoFluent wrote:That one 'foreign' bit was more talking about other slight changes in dialogue other posters were talking about (such as the Kaito Kid dialogue).GinRei wrote:But it's a line that's in english already. In short, all I'm really trying to say is that it's only a translation of a Japanese-in-English phrase. If we are supposed to believe that she can talk in actual English and that she is American, then how are we supposed to believe that if she actually speaks in worse English than the other characters who live in Japan speak?
It's only a translation to make the sentences flow better and to remain consistent with the world around them. Don't fret the small stuff guys

And on another note, they stay in business because they are probably the top selling manga company out there right now, especially with their big hit Naruto, which has consistently sold in the top 100 (150?) books in the US upon release.

Re: V29 Vermouth's catch phrase changed!
In the manga, Vermouth doesn't say her "A secret makes a Woman, Woman" line yet, the anime added that in, but Vermouth only talked about having a secret in the Manga. (Look it up on DCTP's Manga site). Jodie does say it, and they did change her line, however, I have a feeling that Viz is actually just trying to make Jodie seem less like Vermouth. (Atleast I hope what that's what it is) The other thing to remember, is the translator probably had no idea that it was a catch phrase, and so they changed it around a little bit. I wonder how Viz will handle the New York Case, since the manga version was almost entirely in english to begin with.

okay, I can see if someone has a hard time translating something, but that motto is already in freakin ENGLISH!
what the butt? that's the most retarded thing ever! I'm telling you, they need to be careful with subbers and translators, except on here. The subbing from DCTP are really good and accurate.

Yeah, but at that point in the manga, you're SUPPOSED to think that Jodie is Vermouth. If you don't, it takes the surprise out of the Full Moon double-Mystery case. Aoyama-sensei wants us to think that Jodie is acutally Vermouth (remember the whole case with Jodie and Heiji?). So if they're changing it around to make it seem less likely that Jodie is Vermouth, then they're messing with the creator's intentions.cashman_11 wrote: Jodie does say it, and they did change her line, however, I have a feeling that Viz is actually just trying to make Jodie seem less like Vermouth. Also, it makes no sense for Jodie to mess up the phrase; due to the trauma of that night she'd remember it even better.
I have finally started to actually publish my story! For the moment, expect a new chapter each month.
The Case of the Midnight Channel
"When a strange letter summons the Mouri family to Inaba, Ran is expecting a case. She's not expecting it to involve the TV, though.
If Naoto investigated everyone who came to visit Inaba, she'd have little time for real cases. When Yukiko reports that the Midnight Channel is back, however, she starts to wonder if the visitors are connected. Especially when the image clears, unveiling yet another mystery."

Short version: I'm taking various DC/MK characters to Inaba (where Persona 4 takes place) and dropping them through the TV to face their Shadows!

I was already pissed the moment I saw Shinichi = Jimmy.Shinran wrote: For those who got volume twenty-nine in English, who here is pissed off about the fact that they changed Vermouth's awesome phrase, "A secret makes a woman woman" to "that touch of mystery gives a woman her allure"? Oh, and when Jodie quotes Vermouth, "the air of mystery makes a woman". Does anyone like this change? Y/N?
"A secret makes a woman woman" --
The original line is already in English!!! Heck. The translator thought we readers were idiots who needed his/her "clarification" or something?

Mind you, Tokyopop and Delrey publishers are keeping certain Japanese common words such as "sensei" and honorifics (san, chan, kun, sama...) in their manga (and make footnotes to explain the terms), something VIZ should learn to do.as long as you don't use them like a retard in random english sentences
It's always good to learn something new everytime.
Bomb the translatorYou want me to do something about it? I live in the city where they publish the manga.

Eventually, I bet they change Kaitou Kid's, "Ladies and Gentlemen!" to "Everybody, look over here!"
LOL ...
KAITO KID's motto is: "Always remember to keep a Poker face".
Re: V29 Vermouth's catch phrase changed!
i can't stop laughing at some of the replies.. i can't really agree with Viz changing it.. because it's already in english.. it made perfect sense for me when i first heard the line in the anime.. so i don't understand why people who knows the english language would have trouble understanding 'a secret makes a woman woman.' well i don't live in america so maybe it's different there..
this is why i generally don't go for dubs.. i once saw a clip of tomoyo singing in cardcaptor sakura on youtube.. and i was totally in shock after hearing the voice of the dubber.. couldn't stop laughing after that though.. lol..

ps. i laughed at that. but kid never uses words so common, does he? his words are usually poetic. ^^GinRei wrote: Eventually, I bet they change Kaitou Kid's, "Ladies and Gentlemen!" to "Everybody, look over here!"

Honestly... next time they will rename Eisuke to Emanuel and the phrase "We can be both God and the Devil, since we are trying to raise the death against the stream of the time." to "We are gods and devils, 'cause we are trying to make zombies, who will beat up Time".
*sighs*

"A secret make a woman, woman."
IT'S FREAKING ENGLISH ALREADY SHEESH!!!
P.S. What does allure mean??
