This was a really good special overall.
The entire cast got to shine, there were many great moments for the characters, and plenty of funny lines.

I thought the special was good but the case was bad, if that makes sense.

Bad mystery, but good character interactions?
“Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent. We would not dare to conceive the things which are really mere commonplaces of existence. If we could fly out of that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, and and peep in at the queer things which are going on, the strange coincidences, the plannings, the cross-purposes, the wonderful chains of events, working through generations, and leading to the most outre results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable.”

Episode 805: Conan and Ebizo's Kabuki Juhachiban Mystery (Part 2)

Conan trying to escape is already better and more exciting than most of the last movie tbh.

also, Haibara and Ran interaction, yay

Ebizo's best moment without a doubt is going on top of the crane and yelling "STOP THE CONSTRUCTION!"

Huh. I wasn't that into the last episode but this was actually fantastic. I kind of agree with Waka but at the same time, the whole Sleeping Kogoro scene was presented in more interesting ways than usual, it made clever use of the setting, I quite liked that. It was actually some of the most fun I've had watching an episode since the Bourbon arc conclusion. Well done. Also, there was lots of Haibara, so obviously it automatically gets points for that alone.

CR announced yesterday that the episodes will now be released for Premium Members on Wednesdays at 3pm EST and everyone else on Saturday at the same time.
So as of now, 806 is out for premium :V

Anyway. Crazy episode, trick was easy to figure out. I hope the criminal isn't who I think it is. >_>

Awesome. We've gone from J+10 to J+7 to J+4. Hopefully J+1 if not H+1 will be next.

It's a twisted version of that comedian murder case,... It was pretty obvious, but I'm curious to know what the trophy hint is about(Next-Conan-hint),...

Episode 806: The Ventriloquist's Illusion (Part One)

I have to admit, I have never seen ventriloquism used for horror before. That is new to me. ...I think...

Hahaha the sleeping Kogoro comparison

This guy is a representation of the anime writers the past few months. Seemingly gone insane...

They're keeping some of honorifics and the like in the sub text. Not sure how to feel about this.

Having Takagi dealing with this person might've been a mistake.

I have to admit, I legitimately loved this episode. A lot of it is how unusual it is. I tend to really love stories where someone loses their mind and becomes a glorious over-the-top evil monster, so this is MY type of episode. Even taking into consideration where it is actually going, it was still really fun to watch. Also, they get bonus points for actually calling it dissociative identity disorder.

I am so glad the anime team has turned around their writing like this. Like 5-6 years ago AOs were my least favorite thing in the universe, so this is has been so nice to see.

I was about to ignore this Anime Original (Episode 806) but I got so surprised! I love stuff related to ventriloquism and they mixed it with a horror style, really good!

Can't wait to watch the next episode even though I believe that the criminal is definitely Tengan :)

The scene with the fake gloves just comes across a bit dumb with the black blood.

Otherwise, I think the part where he arrives to the theater and faces his talking doll is one of the best AO scenes in the anime.

Also this episode had a lot of pretty oldish-school music, no ?

Overall quite good AO. Would have benefited from a few extra suspects. AO writers usually struggle to write compelling how-dunnits (only exception I can think of is 150-151).

Episode 807: The Ventriloquist's Illusion (Part Two)

So is February in Japan like October for us, because there's a lot of vaguely kinda horror-y stuff this month...

Anyway, second half was fine, if utterly predictable. I think the only thing that put it on the level of the last episode though was the fake ventriloquism. That was really cool and it's always nice when the voice changer is used in more creative ways. Otherwise, you already knew exactly what was gonna happen before you watched this. Even compared to most episodes.

Not much to say about 808. It was great. I especially liked Yamamura acting as the 'Demon Hunter' as well as his dumb pun. Yamamura is underrated, he's great as comic relief.

Holy crap I loved the episode. I'm not sure if it's because of that filler wave or because of the better pacing (2 chapters is being adapted for this and next instead of 1½ since it's a 4 chapter case instead of 3 and they halve the normal cases per ep) but this feels like an actual story. Pretty intense stuff. I also think the anime did the connection for Kansuke Yamato being a Rum suspect better than the manga in a way that it didn't feel stuffed in in a weird way.
The preview for the next episode looks even better.

I guess the only negative is that there is no "build up" to the suspense, it's a "go-to" a case setting, but since this isn't a long case to begin with (only 1 chapter longer than the normal apartment cases), it's surprisingly good.

Hmm other than that I think the identity of the killer in the anime is very obvious for a certain reason but unlike the fillers there's still other mysteries to solve and foreshadowing for future events.
