The schedule is a bit out there right now. We play late at night (by US time), usually, but hop on and suggest a game and see what happens!
Significant Rule Changes (Updated 4/10/2011)
Firstly, it is up to the GM as to what set of rules are followed for each round, but in general, the rules are as such:
— The current set of rules for live Mini Mafia use Round 22 as a basis. Some changes and adjustments have been made:
Jodie & Camel may now use Observe -OR- Stakeout per night. Prior to this, they only had Observe at their disposal.
Betrayal is now a passive ability.
Kogorou now becomes sober after 1/4 total players die, instead of after a fixed 6 total players die.
— Role hand-offs are generally no longer accepted. The only exception is if the handoff is to a mandated ally (such as a BFF, fellow Detective Boy, or a lover) WHILE leaving yourself logged into the channel. Even to Black Org teammates, for your role to still be considered "in the game", you need to stay logged in. Getting disconnected and reconnected is fine, but handing off your role and leaving entirely will have your role simply removed. How It Works
The live games of Mini Mafia are conducted through IRC (or Internet Relay Chat). For those unfamiliar, it's more or less a chatroom with the features you would expect from one. Access to this chatroom can be done through conventional IRC programs (#MiniMafia on Rizon) or, more easily and perhaps conveniently, by way of web IRC applications. The rules for live renditions of Mini Mafia will generally follow those similar to Round 22. If there are exceptions, the GM will make it clear beforehand. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM me here on the forums, post your question or problem here in this thread, or even log onto the IRC channel if possible. I'll be glad to do what I can!
NOTE: You are free to join the IRC channel at any time, even a week in advance of the game. There is usually a group of users idling that can help or chat about whatever, including any concerns you may have about times or when another round should be played. If you would like to volunteer to GM a round, make a post indicating as much with possible days and times you think you can do it. Keep in mind that rounds of live Mini Mafia should not interfere with the phase change times in the latest round of the main Mafia game.
There are numerous means of joining the IRC channel (you will be able to get in if you try a few, almost assuredly). Here are the basic, web-applicable ones that can be opened right in your browser:
Method #1: Mibbit IRC
Click the example image below to try Mibbit IRC:
[html] [/html]
Alternatively, if the above window does not work, you may visit the channel directly by clicking HERE.
If none of this still works, you may click here to visit Mibbit's main hub directly. From there, select "Rizon [webirc]" from the dropdown menu, enter your nickname, and use "#minimafia" as the channel (yes, you need to include the "#").
Note: You will need to learn how to PM users. With Mibbit IRC, you click on the name of the user you wish to open a private message with and choose "PM". From there, a new tab at the top of the screen will be opened with that user. To get back to the main channel, you simply click the #minimafia tab next to any PMs you have open. You will need to watch the top of the screen for PMs from other users, but particularly the GM. You will send in your actions each phase to the GM via PM, and your results will be sent to you the same way. Of course, you will also be using PM to strategize with other users.
Method #2: Web IRC
Click the example image below to try Web IRC:
[html] [/html]
If this window does not work for you, try doing a hard refresh (by using Ctrl+Shift+R or Ctrl+F5, depending on the browser).
Note: You will need to learn how to PM users. With Web IRC, you click on the name of the user you wish to open a private message with and choose "Query".
Can't get the web IRC applets to work on your computer or just looking for a more permanent solution? Look no further!
Method #3: mIRC
mIRC is the most efficient means of accessing IRC channels, as you may have guessed. Firstly, CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD mIRC. After that, install the program with the default options and open it. What follows is the most comprehensive guide I could possibly make. If you have any problems, let us know!
Spoiler: How to setup mIRC for Mini Mafia
[STEP ONE]: Click "Continue"!
Seem obvious? You'd be surprised.
[STEP TWO]: Fill Out the Forms
Enter your corresponding information as suggested in the image below. You don't have to use a real e-mail and don't have to enter your "full name" (you can put "Mr. Pickles" if you want, it doesn't matter).
[STEP THREE]: Server Setup
Immediately after inputting your information, click "Server" on the option tree on the left of the pop up box (shown in the green box below). From there, scroll through the list of possible servers and click on Rizon (denoted by the red box below). After word, click "Select" to the right of that (the blue box). This should now return you to the previous set of options where you put in your information.
[STEP FOUR]: Confirm Information
As a result of Step Three, you should see that the "Server" option (boxed in red below) now says "Rizon: Random server". After confirming the information you've filled out is what you would like, click OK.
[STEP FIVE]: Mooooving On
Now, you want to click "Options" under the options tree on the left (boxed in green below) and then click on the "Perform" button (boxed in red).
[STEP SIX]: Perform on Connect
Firstly, click the checkbox to "Enable perform on connect" (boxed in green below). Then, click the "Add" button below (boxed in red in the image).
[STEP SEVEN]: Choosing Rizon
Scroll through the list of servers and again find "Rizon". Click on it and then click OK.
[STEP EIGHT]: Perform Commands
Click the dropdown box (encircled in green below) and you should now find a new option available: Rizon. Choose it and then click in the text box under it (the red portion below) to insert the corresponding information displayed in the image below. That information is, on two separate lines: /join #dctp
/join #minimafia
The first channel is the main DCTP channel and the second is the usual Mini Mafia channel. If you would like to opt out of either, remove that line (since this post will undoubtedly be referenced as an IRC guide elsewhere on the forums at times). What this essentially does is auto-join you to those channels upon each connect. Once you are content with the information in the text box, click OK and then OK again to get you out of the dialog boxes.
[STEP NINE]: Connect!
If you followed all of the steps above, you're done! All that's left now is to click the lightning bolt (also known as "Connect", boxed in red below). When you do, you should be ready to chat away.
[ADDITIONAL NOTES!]: You should probably read this!
IRC is distributed on a trial basis, but it remains entirely functional and free even after it "expires". When the expiration date does come, you will get a window similar to what's below. This DOES NOT mean you have to buy or otherwise register your copy of mIRC. Wait for a moment and the "Continue" button should become un-greyed and clickable. From there, the program will be usable as normal. If the "Continue" button changes only to "Exit", close the program and open it again. Again, you do NOT have to buy or otherwise register mIRC to use it! EVER!
Beyond that, mIRC is fully functional and has no real limitations as an IRC client (for obvious reasons). It is also quite customizable, and I do recommend changing the font:
If you DO encounter any connection problems: Do not panic! You can specifically request to connect to a particular Rizon mirror server of your choice from those listed here. As is the case with most IRC commands, the server joining command begins with a "/" (minus the quotes). If you would like to connect to "irc.thefear.ca" for example, you would type in "/server irc.thefear.ca" (minus the quotes) on the main IRC window and press enter. From there, it will connect. If that doesn't work, try another server. To reiterate: All of the servers listed at the link above all lead to Rizon IRC. They are all simply mirrors of the same service, so they will all bring you to the Mini Mafia and/or the DCTP channel.
If you have any questions about this method, don't hesitate to PM me (Jd-) for assistance or to post in the topic. I am glad to help anytime!
Method #4: Ice Chat
If mIRC is a bit too complicated for your tastes, Ice Chat is a much simpler solution. For starters, CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD ICE CHAT. Virtually all of it is self-explanatory, but if you aren't really familiar with IRC at all, here is a quick rundown.
Spoiler: How to set up Ice Chat for Mini Mafia
[STEP ONE]: Enter nickname
This should be the window that greets you upon opening the program. Enter your nickname and click the green arrow.
[STEP TWO]: Enter server
Type "irc.rizon.net" into the server window as illustrated below and click the green arrow.
[STEP THREE]: Connecting to server
Continue through to the main window. At the top of the screen, click the "Favorite Servers" tab if it isn't already extended and select "irc.rizon.net" (it should be the top option now). After selecting it, click the "Connect" button at the bottom (boxed in green in the image below).
[STEP FOUR]: Channels menu
After connecting, click the "Favorite Channels" button below "Connect".
[STEP FIVE]: Joining channel(s)
Click "add" (as boxed in blue above). Enter "minimafia" in the resulting text box and click OK.
[STEP SIX]: Joining channel(s)
Your entered channel will now be available under the "Favorite Channel" header (you may also add "DCTP" if you so wish, as that is the main DCTP channel for releases and such). For this example, click "minimafia" on the list and then click "Connect" (as boxed in green below). This will join you into the channel, and from there, you should be able to speak with the congregation. Enjoy!

I don't want to spam this thread or anything, but I love the banners.
Superman = Captain America > Aquaman = Hal Jordan > Wonder Woman > Barry Allen > Thor > Martian Manhunter > The Hulk > Wasp > Hawkeye > [power gap] > Iron Man = Batman > [power gap] > Hank Pym
— Townies may not hand off their role to another player unless they are doing so to a mandated ally (such as a BFF, fellow Detective Boy, or a lover). If a Black Org player leaves, their Black Org teammates may send in orders for them for the duration of the game.
We discussed this in pofa's topic and a little bit more today on IRC, so unless there are any objections/further suggestions~! (It is, of course, still up to the GM as to what rules are followed and stuff)
Also!
A new Saturday round has been scheduled: Cheesus GMing, at 7:30 PM EST.
Miiko won't be able to make it tomorrow, so Kleene will be stepping in to fill her shoes if not. The match starts at 3:00 PM EST, which should be pretty good for those that couldn't make it at the 10:00 PM EST game a few hours ago. If Kleene can't make it, we'll see who else is up for it, but try to show up if you can I suppose~ Proposed Upcoming Rounds
