I wasn't 100% sure either, so I looked at the OED and it turns out that while "outspeed" is a word, you were indeed looking for "outsped" because it's the past tense version of "outspeed", like Rellik said.

BTW, can someone explain me why American football is called football? Have I missed anything or isn't it mainly played with the ball in the hands, like Rugby?

someone who is correct that American Football is mostly played with the hands, and that it seems sort of silly for it to be called Football. However, it has its origins in the same class of "football" sports that soccer football is based off of, and the name was probably just never changed, unlike Rugby.
