Re: Mafia Round 58: Professor Layton and the Immortal Gem [Day 5]

Post by Professor Layton »

Layton stepped in front of the Tokyo Tower, after receiving word that he should come immediately. He quickly saw that a crowd had gathered around two figures, who seemed like they were arguing about something.

"What exactly is going on here?"

"Well..." Katia stepped over to the Professor, a worried look on her face, "I think that Don Paolo challenged Descole to a duel of who is better at disguises..."

"And building machines," Clive spoke up.

"Though, I personally think I'm better at that..."

Flora lightly hit him, pouting.

"Yours was just a huge chunk of moving metal. Even his," she pointed at Don Paolo, "were more interesting than the one you made."

Clive muttered something about it still looking more impressive. Layton chuckled softly and put a hand on the other's shoulder.

"It was quite imposing. But we should probably stop those two before anything happens. They both have rather bad tempers..."

Descole took a step towards the horn-haired man, throwing an arm off to the side and making his cape flare out.

"You haven't even seen what I can do! I've heard of your attempts at fooling people, but even if your costumes are passable, you always make the simplest mistakes which get you caught. Layton had a much harder time finding mine."

"Don't act like yours were so flawless. If they had been perfect, he wouldn't have found them at all. At least I managed to fool even his loyal apprentice into believing I was his beloved Professor, once."

Hershel walked out of the crowd to stand between the two.

"Really, that's enough you two."

"Layton? So glad to see you came...and everyone else...here of all places."

Don Paolo(Korn) stood next to the Tower facing everyone with a smug grin.

"Hmm, so disgruntled the lot of you are today. Perhaps it is my time to depart..."

He turned to look at Descole with a smirk, inclining his head slightly.

"We will have to delay this matter to another time, Descole."

He made a swift swing with his arm and threw a round object into the air, zzzzst it sounded, and a flash of light and a creature hovered above him.

"I call it the Monster Ball. It stores creatures in digitalised form in small objects. Very handy when you cannot use flying machines." He leaped up and grabbed the legs of the creature and made it fly away.

"Late--wait, no up!" A strong current swept across the area and blew them both away.

The others stared after him for a few moments before Descole spoke up.

"Well, it was obvious I would have won, anyway...."

A cough was heard behind them. It seemed one of the creature's spores had been blown around and was affecting someone. Layton couldn't quite tell who though, in the crowd. He did, however, catch a glimpse of a pair of broken handcuffs, glinting coldly on the ground.

[Latter part of the story written by the Don himself :) ]

Summary: Don Paolo (Korn) was lynched, an officer was suspended, and someone was injured.
Spoiler: Don Paolo's Will
Actions so far...

Prep Phase: !FM sendbribe GM 8-)
Night 1:
Observed who took the last donut in the Police Department - Chiba is the culprit!
Boss ordered me to kill a guy who got too close to the Organization, later I heard he was a doctor or something. Blew his head right off with a shot from 700 m. Beat that, Chianti! 8-)
Night 2:
Observed the Inspector as he patrolled the streets looking for the doctor's murder. Then, later, headed off to do another kill for the Boss as some police guy was snooping around the crime-scene. Tonight's weather is much nicer for a kill than yesterday, too.
Day 2:
Claiming to be tricked as an alibi. That should do the trick. *Chuckles* Curses. What happened now..surely I did not leave any evidence behind, did I?
Night 3 & Day 3:
Sigh. Flight regulations in the airspace of Japan sure are strict...being questioned for hours for simply attempting to fly in my air machine was more than just frustating. Luckily I got in contact with a lawyer who swept away all charges for me by giving me this little card.
Night 4:I new he was a loner by reputation but even has noticed he has been acting odd. Well, I did what I was told and found he has been seeking comfort in the arms of a boy detective of all people. They exchanged a few brief words before, walking hand in hand, they made their way to a café.

I kept out of sight and watched as a man met with them not fifteen minutes after they have sat at a small corner table. Hmm...something was familiar about him, too. It was then Korn realised where he had seen him, at the Police Station a few days ago. He was a high ranking officer by the looks of his stylish clothes and refined manners. Vermouth was right about Bourbon behaving odd but to think he would betray the Organization? That was a surprise. Neither the Boss or Vermouth would like these dire news Korn suspected and was found right when he reported back a short while later.

Alright, now that that was taken care of better go deal with the hit on another nosy cop. Korn had observed the guy the first night after they had gotten into here and knew what he needed to do the job without a hitch. Later, in the morning hours just after dawn a woman's scream alerted the police about the death of Takagi. Shot between the eyes, a clean hit.

Day 4
Looks like the Boss took care of our little problem alright. Betrayal is never an option to consider within our Fellowship. Bourbon made a mistake he will not make again.

Night 5
Korn had been giving the order to eliminate the officer he had seen Bourbon with the night prior and was in the middle of setting up his gear on a rooftop when Vermouth surprisingly had giving him another call, a strange one at that no less. "Hello Korn. A friendly warning," she mused, coming from Vermouth it almost sounded like a threat. He merely shrug it off with his usual silent demeanor and listened to what she had to say.
"Watch your back. Bourbon is not the only one of us who have been acting strange..." With that cryptic message she had ended the call and Korn tensed visible at the sound of footsteps near followed a familiar voice called out. "Freeze!"

The man stepped closer to the crunching Korn, grasping his gun firmly in his hands. "Slowly put your hands behind your head."

Korn obeyed, slowly turning his head to gain a peek at the man pointing a gun at him as he lifted his hands into the air to place behind his head. He smirked as he recognized the man, it was the officer from the café. A plan began to form in his head as he rose slowly to his feet determined to not go down tonight. "Easy officer, I surrender." He lied as he turned around, his hands behind his head as he took in the man pointing a gun at him.
Shiratori made a gesture with the gun toward the ground, "Kneel. And keep your hands where I can see them still." With one hand he reached for the cuffs hanging at his belt and moved closer to Korn after he had followed the order.

"..." Korn watched as the officer stepped closer and moved behind him, awaiting the perfect opportunity to strike. Korn knew he should not underestimate this man and made his movement in the brief instance Shiratori bend down to cuff his hands, striking out in a low sweep to trip the man so he dropped his gun. It flew out of his hand in an arc and fell over the railing down onto the street.
The battle took but a few minutes but each second felt drawn out to an hour, then it was over. Korn had successfully knocked out the cop by pushing him into railing and followed up by a punch to the face.

The officer groaned before falling unconcious. Korn stood up and straightened his jacket before going about packing up his gear quickly. It would not be long before it would be flooded with police here. He glanced at the man he was sent to kill and slung the lump officer's body over his shoulder, picked up his rifle case and made his way to the staires. Now where to dump this one? Sigh. This was supposed to be Pisco's job...maybe he should give him a call? No. He would finish it alone. Vermouth's warning was still gnawing at the back of his head...he could feel something was about to happen soon and they still had not found this rumoured Gem of Immortality the Boss was so eager to get his hands on. Maybe the cop had noted something down in his notebook about that...he would be sure to check it after dumping the body somewhere, maybe the park? It was close by after all...

- Lt. Korn signing off.

Dear Emmy, I do pray you will be alright, we can find someone to take care of your arm, I'm sure.

Arianna is a wannabe Camel, bent on ruling the world or so says the broken handcuffs of a suspended cop.

Also I wouldn't call Arianna a victim, after all, it's her organisation.

We got a BO? Well done, folks.

And just to say. Don't dissect my words piece by piece. I prefer silence anyways.

Or something...

In any case back then I was worried because quite many townies had been lost but votings hadn't been working properly(i.e. we couldn't lynch anyone). Also I was surprised to have lovers after all because the previous games I've attended, haven't had those. I know it's just by coincidence whether or not we have Yumi but the chance is surprisingly small unless she's been intended to include since the beginning.

Where is that coming from, all of the sudden? Why would you thunk I'm evil? I can assure you I am not!

Also... I'm not sure why you think it's a good idea to names roles. That'll only give the BO ideas as to who to APTX me as.

Don't listen to Angela and Emmy. At this point I'm not sure if they are evil or just misguided, but they are definitely wrong.

Yes, screaming Anokata is necessary, since we could only catch you killing and disguised as a Camel, ( which you are )you know my actions, I know your actions, so therefore, I'm sure your buddies know my actions too. So I have nothing to lose by saying anything with this post, it's all in my will, I can post it here, but as long as I can get you lynched, I'm happy. :)

Being the first to catch Anokata seems a bit of a dream. And you probably didn't even SO yourself, since Claire interrogated you that night.

So who's the liar here?

The liar is pretty clear, Ms Ledore! As clear as Night 6's victim, but it is a good thing, it will just push forwards the votes on the already announced BO and we can quickly follow along to the next one!

"Dear Layton and others,

From what I've seen, everyone is currently an unorganised mess. Managing to find only one lead and letting it so easily be taken away? What exactly have you all been doing in all the time before Layton and I arrived? Instead of furthering anything, you people have allowed others to simply leave and get attacked. Until further notice, I am returning to London. I can get about as much done there without further irritation.

Barton(Yumi) also let slip that there was a certain prime minister in London that I might take some frustration out on.... Anyway, he will be accompanying me for the return, as it appears the Inspector he normally works with has noticed the Constable's absence and has requested that he come back.

I hope to find things progressing a bit better by the time I do return.

~ Descole"

Summary: Descole is annoyed ( V: ) and Barton(Yumi) was killed.
Spoiler: Barton's Will
Will: I don't have much of anything to put in here, sadly.

A true gentleman should know his limits.
~o~
Job? More like a fool's errand. You and I both know perfectly well the danger it carries.
~o~
Oh? So you'd be willing to put the people around you in danger? Because unlike myself and that thief, you don't have a mask to hide behind. And they will exploit that.
~o~
It's not as though they'll be allowed to find the gem just because you stop looking. He already said he'd take care of it. If you want to be such a gentleman, then you wouldn't want steal someone else's job.

Ah, yes, that mysterious 'concerned' person who put everyone else at risk in the first place. I'm sure their request completely justifies continuing.

Forgive my lapse of judgement, I was crying over Randall again...

Anyways, isn't it funny the proof comes out tonight, from Miss Camelkata herself, that I am evil...Let's go back here, ok, I announced the first lead on Don Paolo, for Claire, I was asked to announce the second lead, but I wasn't around...So miss Arianna did, Miss Arianna knew of my investigate when we swapped actions, something random BO enjoy doing. She saw three investigates and missed an interrogate from Miss Claire herself. Ah, let's get onto Miss Claire, I knew her role, so I could have aptxed and gotten rid of the lovers, as they weren't hiding it very well.

Oh by the way, Emmy being town was my call when a townie and BO were tricked, do you wish me to get the PMs and post them here...

Miss Claire at first protected this Camel, but no one can protect a lying Camel.

So...enjoy, and forgive my lapse of judgement.

My name is Camelkata,
My favorite color's black,
My claims are very funny,
You can even say "They're whack"

Everytime I type,
I spread all these lies.
Let's look forward to it,
Killing the townies, you guys.

Everywhere I go,
I lie out of my dress,
I'll keep it all a secret,
My lies I won't confess.

My name is Camelkata,
I run the whole BO
I killed my little brother
To steal the family's dough.

Ahem... As Ms Ledore just stated in melodical tone, you are the only one lying and being evil here, Ms Arianna. You are, %100 confirmed, Anokata, therefore a mean guy! Our early statement of your evilness was because we expected your intents to manipulate the town, but the only truth here is that your manipulations are over. As you know, Ms Arianna, your disguise was found out, and singled out to be none other that the Black Boss, so we need to lynch you today. Day 6. Thank you all for listening!

I'm pretty sure that the reason no one died last night phase was that the BO that was supposed to was tricked. If that assumption is correct it's either Emmy or Bronev. You trusting Emmy is good enough for me. I do think Bronev is likely to be BO.

Layton Looked at the letter in front of him again and sighed. He couldn't really argue with what Descole had said, though everyone had started to become more active in searching for information after the man had left. At this very moment, even, the others were a bit restless to get back to following any clues they might have picked up on. Unfortunately, there was still the business they had been gathered here for to be taken care of...

"Arianna."

The girl looked up when he spoke, a look of worry in her eyes.

"...Yes, Professor?"

"It appears quite a few people are claiming that you are a part of the group that attacked Henry and Dimitri. Is what they are saying true?"

"Of course not! They must.... be..." The voice trailed off as Arianna(Anokata-Camel) looked the Professor in the eyes. She slowly lowered her head and her face fell.

"...Yes. It's true."

Layton stared sadly at the girl for a moment before sighing. That she was one of the evil group was a bit surprising. He would make the arrangements to have her taken back to London as soon as possible.

"Professor!"

Luke's panicked voice immediately drew his attention. He turned to his apprentice and saw Angela lying on the ground beside the boy, her eyes closed and face pale. Layton quickly ran over to them.

"What happened?"

"I-I don't know!" The apprentice stammered, "One minute she was fine, and the next.... Wait a minute... I did see her drink some tea..."

The Professor looked over and noticed a cup on the ground nearby, half of it's contents spilled on the ground.

Poison!?

"Luke, quickly, call an ambulance!"

As the boy swiftly obeyed, Layton turned back to Angela(Satou).

Now even during the day... He won't be happy to hear about this.

Summary: Arianna (Anokata-Camel) was lynched and Angela (Satou) was poisoned.
Spoiler: Angela's Will
From the desk of Mrs. Angela LedoreAscot...

Randall knocked on my door the other day to surprise me, "My Dear Princess, Henry, you and I were all invited to trip to Japan." His voice was ecstatic.

I hid my badge from him, as I had yet to tell him my brand new endeavor of being a police officer in Japan. I took the name Miwako Satou, it sounded right. The first two nights, I received nothing, though I struggled between checking Randall and Henry being attacked, Randall did win out...

I have spoken to several people in my will, I trust Emmy, I'm not too sure why. Arianna may be town. I've spoken to others, but my feelings have been off lately. Arianna knows I have a badge...as does the one whom outted Mr. Don Paolo. I have spoken to him, and keep my belief he is evil and I do apologize for the detain, but if he was speaking the truth, of being town, I honestly believed that not having him being lynched was for the best, so I will admit I was wrong to detain him, but my niceness was eating at me, so I threw the detain. Several of my allies know his claim, and that it apparently fell through.

Nobody I've spoken too seems suspicious, my gut says Don Paolo is very evil. And will hopefully be lynched this phase. Night 4, I did some investigating and gained an ally, or so I thought, this ally however had a secret, a strange disguise I learned of night 5, which I had planned to check before Claire told me, Arianna is disguised is what I am saying, and Day 5, I shall be arresting her for that disguise, now if the arrest fails, it can only mean one thing, that she may just be an actual Camel, with a deep dark secret which belongs to an ancient, yet evil organization bent on stealing this gem for their own...

Then...there is something, I said it earlier...I arrested my husband, he...very possibly did as he was once planning too as the Masked Gentlemen and attacked Henry, now it could be blamed, but the man who had alerted me to his doing called himself a traitor to this organization, I...am...quite saddened by this turn of events and do hope...it's blame...but...well...I...*tears stain the next words on the paper and they are illegible*

And with that, I shall place my badge down and wish the town the best of luck and apologize for no longer being any help.
