Character Contest: Mouri Ran vs. Miyano Akemi

Didn't Ai actually refuse to approach Ran until 246-247 (The mystery in the net case) precisely because she reminded her of Akemi ? I don't remember if it was explicitly mentionned though.

She usually just cries when she is talking with Shinichi (whether she talks with him personally or over the phone.) The other days she "cries" (meaning she has tears in her eyes) is when she is alone and thinks about shinichi. She's not crying in front of people usually.

And then ai didn't want to let Ran get in danger.

Anyway, it's up to you if you like the poll or not. But some things are intended to be hinted, like Ran being similar to Akemi. Of course, it's also up to oneself if you accept that or not.

The problem is not crying in front of people or hiding it, it's more about the frequency. Sure, it could seem normal to some people, but if we take in consideration that not even a year has passed since Shinichi "disappeared", it's way too much.

I asked if her "not wanting to let Ran get in danger" was before or after Ran saved her in 345. The "not wanting to talk to Ran" (either because, as I think, she's jealous of her or, as you think, she reminds her of Akemi) was definitely before 345. So we agree on that.

It's not that I didn't like the poll, I was just surprised of the choice because I always thought of other characters as opponents of Ran.

This is why I wish Aoyama focused more on the hidden, mixed feelings of the many characters out there (not just Ai), than just repeating all over again crying scenes and obvious feelings, or creating new pairings without resolving previous ones.

I know from experience, that when someone you love/loved "disappears", Rans crying is not enough. She's actually pretty strong imo :V But that's my opinion.

Well, there were other choices too. But I didn't want to repeat any used roles yet, so sonoko and kazuha weren't an option. Haibara vs. ran is a bit of a murdering for the moderators :V And also predictable.
I could have done Ai vs. Akemi too and thought about it, but I choose to go for Ran vs. Akemi first :V

The only thing I disagree is, that it's considered not interesting. I think it is. Since I want to know what people think about the characters. If they choose a dead character, that didn't appear a lot over a main character.

Or if people like shinichi or conan better, tho they are the same person. Everything interesting for me XD Otherwise I wouldn't have done the poll this way anyway.

I see, but I just compared Ran's reaction to what I usually see in various movies/series, and it seemed exaggerated. But I guess you're right, no one can really know unless they live the experience. Also, I don't think Ran is weak because of her crying tendency; I never considered crying as a sign of weakness anyway, even though I do think it's useless since crying generally won't change anything.

You'd be surprised to know that I actually cry a lot in real life, just like Ran, which is why she's one of my least favorite characters, because she reminds me of my own flaws. It feels weird sharing this. lol

Oh, an Ai/Shiho vs Akemi poll would have been an interesting "battle"! Not that I think this poll isn't interesting, in fact, I wouldn't have voted at all if I didn't like the poll.. but, once again, I was just surprised to see the options.
