While Matsuda is dead, it's clear Satou was really in love with him.

Actually, Sato only knew him for a little while, and it wasn't until he was dead that she realized that she had become attached to him.  That's not exactly the same thing.

Well, Satou was obsessed over Matsuda after his death, and for a long time. Not to forget that she seemed quite impressed by him when he was still alive. I think if Matsuda hadn't died, Satou won't end up with Takagi.
Then we'll probably have TakagixYumi, MatsudaxSatou, ShiratorixKobayashi and...
