This thread is yet another way for me to discover some new anime series. You can compare 1 series to another for as long as you can pull it off. You can even compare 1 series to multiple series of the same type. Format for comparison is up to you.
This may also not be limited only to a series comparison. You can pull off an anime character comparison, say Luffy (One Piece) VS Goku (Dragon Ball) in an eat-all-you-can contest. Who wins? Why him and not the other, something like that…

Since I'm currently watching Gosick, I'm gonna compare its characters to other Detective series characters:
Kujo (Gosick) vs Kudo (Detective Conan) for the Ultimate Case Magnet Title

Spiral the bonds of reasoning (S) VS Detective Conan (DC)
SIMILARITIES:
Theme: Mystery
Setting: Modern Japan
DIFFERENCES:
Protagonist: Narumi of S is calm and tsudere while Shinichi of DC is a bit smug and energetic when trying to cach a criminal
Character Development: Narumi is shown to be unconfident of his abilities at he beginning but begins to be more sure of himself near the end while Shinichi looses his arrogant attitude when transformed as Conan
Side Stories: S is more of a psychological manga while DC is more whodunnit manga
Violence: Since DC is a murder mystery-themed, there is more killing and thus more violence than in S
OVERALL: DC = S, there are both awesome manga

Setting: School-Tennis Club
Others: School Rivalries, Exaggerated Techniques
DIFFERENCES:
Protagonists - Gender: All male tennis club with an old hag coach (POT) vs. All female soft tennis club with a former National Champion male coach (ST)
Character Development: Rivalries among players in terms of regular spot (POT) vs. rivalries among players in terms of love interest (ST)
Length: POT by like a mile
Ecchi stuffs: ST by like a mile
OVERALL: POT > ST (unless the ecchi-factor would outweigh other aspects)
