Battle Royale

So who else has read the book/manga/seen the film? How deeply disturbing was it? (Afraid I've only seen the movie and read the manga, myself; rereading the latter right now, which is why I felt like making this thread.)
As a psychologist, I adore this story, much as it disturbs me. The students' myriad reactions to being forced to fight to the death, the backstories abotu why they make the choices they do... the blood/porn aspects aren't really what got me into it, though i'm sure a few will say otherwise
Favourite character: Sugimura. So fit, so awesome, and such a sweetie ♥
Least favourite character: Oda. Absolutely repulsive little toad. Kiriyama is pure nightmare fuel, to say nothing of Mitsuko- and, arguably worse, her flashbacks- but their psychology is too fascinating for me to hate them. Oda's just a repulsive little walking ego.
Anyone else ever wondered what would happen if their class had to play The Game? Who would play? Who might kill you? Who might you kill? Who could you trust? I swear, Battle Royale breeds paranoia like crazy, but in-universe, I suppose that's kinda the point.

GORE!!!
I've only seen the film so maybe I'll try reading the manga.
How many chapters does it have?

It has 119. I think I originally read it on Onemanga, so I'm not sure where you could find it now... probably Mangafox, or maybe you could download it from Mangareader. Or, y'know, buy it, but it's 18+ so I have actually been ID'ed when buying it at Forbidden Planet.

I just checked and it is indeed in mangafox. I'll be reading it soon.

It's good, if disturbing. But that is the point. 42 fifteen-year-olds dropped on an island to fight to the death until only one survives...

I´ve watched the movies...
There was time when I was about to start reading it, but I dislike the art.

It's an... interesting style. Sometimes, it can be really beautiful, but they tend to go a bit over-the-top on pouring bloods and tears and snot and drool and the like... yeah, with the gory bits in general it's a bit OTT. And this being Battle Royale, it's roughly two-thirds gory bits.

But I´d like to read the original book...

So would I. Can't find it anywhere, though i'm sure it must be translated into English.
In other news, the biggest mystery of the manga: how in the name of crap does Kiriyama's coat ALWAYS stay on? Just reread through the fight between Kiriyama and Sugimura (HOT DAMN that was intense; I love you, Sugi ♥) and the damn thing almost never left his shoulders, and when it did, it floated right back into place. Seriously, what?

I´ll probably try to start reading it again...
Almost forget about it, since it has been pretty long time since I saw the movies.

IMO, the manga's better than the movies, though that's largely because the manga goes more in-depth into the backgrounds and psychology of the characters. Kiriyama's particularly interesting, if totally nightmarish. Kawada too.
Also, the second movie is shit.

Read the book... screw the manga and the film... both suck in comparison... And it has been translated because I own the book. Forgot where I bought it... But I did buy it!

I really want to read the book. I know it's the original piece, so I'm curious as to how the movie and manga stand up to it.
