Can't believe that no one has started a thread about this one
Series Synopsis wrote:Kyon is an ordinary first-year high school student who, self-admittedly, has given up his fantasies of espers, time travelers, and aliens as he left middle school. However, sitting behind him is the beautiful, intelligent, and eccentric girl Haruhi Suzumiya, who in her class introduction blatantly states her singular desire in meeting aliens, time travelers, or espers. Interested, Kyon starts trying to make small talk with her before class, eventually leading to normal conversations with Haruhi. One day, after making a comment about Haruhi's displeasure with the available school clubs, he finds himself dragged into membership of the newly formed Spreading Excitement All Over the World with the Haruhi Suzumiya (or SOS) Brigade.
Haruhi quickly claims the Literature Club's room and its sole member, the silent bibliophile Yuki Nagato as property of the SOS Brigade and "voluntary arrests" the timid but cute Mikuru Asahina and the polite, smiling Itsuki Koizumi as the club's other two members. As the story progresses, however, Kyon finds that each of these supposedly "helpless victims" are actually agents of fantastic organizations who have been sent to monitor Haruhi, who they explain as having superhuman abilities of manipulating the universe. Haruhi's unawareness of her powers means that she unconsciously creates a new universe—one more to her liking—and attempts to switch over whenever she becomes bored or otherwise dissatisfied with reality. To prevent this, the members of Haruhi's club spend their time trying to keep their god-like leader entertained, hold her powers in check, and maintain the illusion of a normal life.

Probably my fav anime of all time most of the first series is from book one with elements of other books a Second series is in the works which is rumored to be about Book 4.

and there are more then a few Detective Conan references though out (2 eps were clearly Based around the the Murder on an Island storyline that shows up on Conan more then a few times.)

Huh, weird coincidence.
I just started watching it a few days ago! ;D

There is also a reference to a small line from Detective Conan in one of the episodes.

Can't wait for the second season, though Newtype claims that it has been cancelled.
Viral marketing?

yeah Viral marketing if ya read this article on ANN http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... s-revealed

it explains some of what they are doing and next month's Newtype mag in japan has Haruhi on the cover
http://picasaweb.google.com/shirobane/M ... 4682604146

I havent found a translation for the article yet though so no clue what it says

they did change directors at the start of or in the middle of production so thats probably the reason we are waiting so long

the second season is slated for early 2009 and its most likely about book 4 in the series (S1 the first six eps were about book 1 and the rest of the eps were taken from book 2 and 3 except for the concert ep and ep 0 which were from book 6)

if ya want to read the books you can here http://www.baka-tsuki.net/project/index.php?title=Suzumiya_Haruhi the 4th book is by far my fav book in the series (9 comes close though)

For those who aren't aware, episode 8 of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (2009) is a new episode.  The previous 7 were the same as when it originally aired, but episode 8 is new.
