Will I hate myself later if I watch the later stuff in the first FMA series before watching Brotherhood?

Probably not.  The first series was really good if you didn't have the manga story to compare it to, though there were some notable flaws.

In fact, I'd say you'll probably hate yourself more if you watch Brotherhood and THEN watch the first series.
