anime. The awesome music and voice acting can save even the most boring of cases.

i think i also prefer both. well, i'm a manga reader, because here in our country, the episodes of detective conan is not updated, and youtube doesn't have all the episode of detective conan and if they have, the subs are not english, so i only rely on manga.

it was when i discovered the site dctp.ws, at that time was called conan.wagnergrp.com. i'm really grateful to know this site and i became updated to the story of detective conan :) well, i'm also thankful that there's DCTV, but currently it's unavailable.

well, anyways, here's a little comparison i made for the manga and anime version of detective conan:

in anime, you can't understand a lot of it because of the speed of the conversation and you're reading the translation [except if you really understand japanese :D]. sometimes, the translation is long and the sentence [what they're saying] is very fast. you still have to rewind the video or pause it to understand it more.

in anime, you'll be amazed on the special effects. in manga, you will be amazed on the drawings xD

the anime version is more thrilling than the manga.

when someone is deducting, it's better to understand the steps how the culprit did it in the anime than in manga. :)

in anime, there's an opening and ending theme. manga, there's none. xD

well, that's my little comparison. i think both reading the manga and watching tha anime is good! :3

I prefer reading the manga, because in Germany every tiny trace of blood will be erased.
That means: cutting, cutting and again: cutting. It really sucks xd
They also dared to show it at 12 o' clock! Sure, little kids coming from kindergarden reeeeeeally like to watch Conan. *sigh*  :P
After a while I just stopped watching it even when I got the chance. It was just too depressing.
Also kind of boring. I am happy reading the manga and watching the movies.
Japanese with english subs of course  ;)

@ Celeste:

Yeah, what RTLII made with the Conan anime series is terrible! Cutting parts away that are necessary for the case only because of a slight view of blood... -- Conan is an anime that is NOT for little kids under 8, RTLII!!!
And then the time, as if you could watch Conan at 12 o' clock... We have school, too but school can't be at 12 o' clock following RTLII... And then - because of the less viewers they stopped Conan here in Germany...
That's so ***!
But you can still watch Conan - the japanese version with english subs (like the movies) - here from DCTP!
But sure, reading the manga is the best solution for Germans so far except Fansubbing...
(And I know what I'm talking about because I am German, too...)

You are also from Germany? ö.ö Cool xD
Well, thanks. I am happy being a member in this forum ^_^

Yeah, I know. But I don't have the strength to go through all these episodes.
I stopped watching the anime a long time ago ^^''
And I usually get bored fast, because there's this: I've already seen this - feeling because of the manga =d

I hate RTLII for this. Always cutting till nothing's left anymore xd
Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's also like this >.<''

But back to topic: I think the anime isn't that bad. Only in Germany: Never ever dare to watch it.
It will only leave you depressed and you'll lose a bunch of your precious time.  ;)

I prefer the manga, because I can go through about three or four volumes an hour when speed reading.  As opposed to the anime, which gives you a set start and stop time.  If I do watch it, I usually cut out the OP, EP, and previews.

I like to rush.

Do you mean actual manga volumes (not cases or files)? I am fairly convinced that I read quite fast but reading three volumes of DC (each of them containing about 2-3cases) takes me at least a few hours... I think there are about 64 volumes at the moment and reading at this speed would mean you could go through all of those (containing about 680 files in total) within a bit more 12 hours... :o

It was something more like 580 when I officially read them all and it took me about 20 hours.  Three to four is an average, I can read more or less depending on the length of the volume and how in to it I am.

You should see me with books.  I don't go to sleep until I either pass out or am done with it.

For me I like the manga, but then I always prefere manga in all cases ^^.  I like being able to go back and examine clues or rereading certain passages that I think are important.  It's hard to do that with the anime, especially if you're watching it onilne.

But since I've been completely obsessed with DC lately I've also started watching the anime.  It's great to watch my favorite cases animated!  Of course if it's a new case, I would prefere to read it instead.

I definitely read the manga files for each case before watching the anime counterparts, since the anime makes alterations, sometimes completely different scenes; amd because the characters are Gosho's original design in the manga. Nowadays, I prefer anime originals (at least something new, and no worries of the anime screwing up the manga original cases) over manga case episodes.

I started with the anime (probably the one thing I regret doing).... However... Now I much prefer the manga. The anime tends to make alterations as previously stated, though it is nice to see it all acted out, but in the end, the written form is always best. There has not been one occurrence I can think of where the animated or live action adaptation has out done the original work in a text to film/animation adaptation.

Great example is today! May 4th, most of you say it's Shinichi's birthday. Why? Because the movies said it was, despite the fact that no mention was given in the manga to his actual day of birth, just his age. Whether or not Gosho runs with that idea is entirely up to him, but now, he is forced, if he is ever going to use Shinichi's birthday, to use May 4th, because of the animators doing that.

That is just one of the many qualms I have with watching the animated version of DC... There are a few others which I will not get into.
