Not that much...
What is tragic is the past from almost every swordman who appears in the anime.
But in the part I mentioned above, what happens at the moment it's the most tragic thing (Personally, it is the most tragic thing I've seen in an anime)

Well, the intere serie is the most sad that I've ever seen. And the ending is so frustating, I wish that Lucy could stay with Kouta... and everyone would live like a happy family...

Elfen Lied.

And also Chrono Crusade ending, even when I didn't watch it I watch a video with the ED song... I cried a lot...

Full Metal Alchemist too, a really nice serie and the ending was so sad, it wasn't fear x3 and Hughes was the most nice person ever on that anime.

(I) and also H2O Footprints in the sand!, that chapter when was showed the past of Hayami and Hotaru.

I couldn't watch all Code Geass episodes but it was sad when Euphemia died and Suzaku was so sad and everything... even when I hate Suzaku...

What could possibly have been more tragic than the Tomoe story?

Tomoe is the one in the OVA,right?
Yep, tragic story, but I never take into account OVAs...

Kino's Journey (Kino no Tabi)
- basically each and every episode offers some kind of tragic events
- Episodes 2 & 5 are the notable ones...
- Episode 8 had a great episode resolution
- And I haven't watched Episode 9 - 13 and Episode 00

Fruits Basket, because everyone in the sohma family made me cry or feel like it at some point in the anime/manga.

Tegami Bachi: the first like nine episodes made me cry at some point... and then there were a few of them later on too.

Reborn!: that episode with Gokudera...
Spoiler:
The one that shows you how his mother was killed by his father.
And there were some Detective Conan episodes that made me cry.
(Like the one where the woman realises that her sister wasn't a bad person at all; (after she kills her) and runs over to her dead body, begging her to come back.)
(I haven't really watched very much anime that has tragic events.)

Wow. Surprised that no one mentioned Tsubasa Chronicles. That's pretty depressing too.(And confusing...)

Oh yess. Chrono Crusade is a DEFINITE sad ending. I've read the manga ending,(but not the whole manga) and I'm watching the anime right now. Episode 10 is very sad. :(
Why? You never win the cursed war.
