Aya Hirano has stated she will no longer do voice work in favor of more mainstream Japanese entertainment.

Which means no more new Haruhi. This is probably for the best, because I don't think they can match the first series.

Believe what you want, but my information came from a live stream of a japanese talk show that featured Aya Hirano. She basically stated that she wishes to move into the mainstream Japanese media. Anime is not mainstream, far from it in fact. I understand her actions, but I suppose we won't really know until she makes an official press release about it.

Let novel 10 finish and release first, so we know if they do any crazy shenanigans that need inserting.  It's what they've done thus far, and it seems to work well.

I personally want an OVA released next so books 7 and 8 can be their own season as despite not hating the fact that things were removed from Melancholy (and probably Sigh too) for time reasons, removing anything (unless it's terrible or something) in an adaptation is not something I am a fan of if it can be avoided.


Edit: So apparently the movie is being released on dvd on December 18th. I didn't think they would do that but ok.

nope.. i mean the creator really pushing the second season based on how much the fans love "Haruhi" and dont use a good story line... just selling the character attraction point!
