I once loved mecha, I don't know why I don't anymore. Something must have happened in my life which made me hate it. Though I love sci-fi

I very much loved Vandread during my childhood... now that's the only mecha anime I've watched in my life.

My friend wants me to watch Monster. I know everybody says it's good, but is it good? :P

This is the same friend who made me watch Black Cat and Honey and Clover, so I don't trust her anymore when she says I have to watch something. :P

There are only 3 animes that I've given a 10/10 to:
TTGL
GTO
Monster

so I would say it's good. The only downside to the series is that it's a little more than 70 episodes, and can be a bit slow at times, so if you need constant developments all the time you might not like it.

edit: and for a little more elaboration, if you're suspecting it's anything like honey and clover / black cat because your friend suggested it, looking at brief synopsises of those shows, this is nothing like them so you don't have to worry about it. When it comes to anime, Monster is probably one of the best examples of an anime that doesn't act like one at all, because it's all pretty serious.

Monster's side stories of the minor characters are worth watching too... The watcher would understand why that character did something or why the character did not...

Haven't watched TTGL (actually avoided it because it's mecha)... But the person who recommended it months ago said that he doesn't think of the series as mecha because it's so good... Don't know why I can't stop associating the mecha genre with my childhood memories of anime (good old Voltes V, Daimos, Bt' X, Gundam Wing and G Gundam)...
If you think you are cooler than me then prove it, B*TCH!

of course, I wouldn't recommend skipping any part of monster, the whole thing's good. :P

and I'm not a huge mecha fan really (G-Gundam's the only gundam I've watched all the way through), and yeah, while there's mechs, it's really not the same as most other mech shows.

If there is one anime that I could forget all memory of seeing, just so I could watch it again, it would be TTGL.

That made you infinitely awesomer than me, coz I held back tears a few times when I should've bawled.
