the art was good but it was a complete bait+switch. I saw the intro to the first episode and thought "oh wow that's actually pretty sweet" only to later find out that nothing like that is in the show at all. By the time I realized this, I was halfway through the show and so I felt obligated to finish it.
At least it was visually interesting.
What I expected from the intro: Torsos in hallways, blood, fighting, vampires biting peoples' hands off. Maybe some other stuff thrown in also.
What I got: A tsundere, a lesbian, and two little girls.
I mean, there wasn't anything inherently wrong or straight up bad about the show, but after that intro I just feel sorta robbed on the whole thing.

Try Baccano! for that. From what I've watched (haven't finished it) it's like Bakemonogatari, but it follows through with all that stuff you wanted.Akonyl wrote:srsly.Kleene Onigiri wrote:I also finished bakemonogatari. Having watched both, I can firmly say I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about when you say Baccano! is like Bakemonogatari.pofa wrote: Try Baccano! for that. From what I've watched (haven't finished it) it's like Bakemonogatari, but it follows through with all that stuff you wanted.
Now if you meant Durarara, then I'd understand, but I doubt that's what you meant.

Craaaa, I think I was thinking of Durarara. I need to get straight my memories of anime I watched, like, two episodes of and then stopped. But Baccano is good for torsos in hallways (or the equivalent in units of gore). Although never mind if you've watched it already. (Is the ending good? 8) )Akonyl wrote:Kleene Onigiri wrote: Sometimes it was bloody tho.Spoiler:yeah, there was some blood in it but it was still nowhere near as "actiony" as the intro would have had me to believe.Spoiler:

Way to go, Pofa. Also, you watched Durarara before Baccano! ? How sad, you probably didn't thin kall the Baccano references/cameos in Durarara were that awesome, then.pofa wrote:Craaaa, I think I was thinking of Durarara. Anyway, I dunno how much you watched of Baccano, but the ending's as good as the rest of the show (aka awesome). I'm just saying this because I don't specifically remember much from the ending, but I remember finishing the series and being like "man that was awesome".

Re: I'm Currently Watching...
Well, I watched like two episodes of Durarara before I had even heard of Baccano and was sort of meh about it, but then someone told me I needed to watch Baccano first, so that's what I'm doing now. And yeah, it's awesome so far. But I also watched about two episodes of Bakemonogatari a while ago (I don't think I'll pick it back up, especially after what you and Kleene said), and for some reason the titles got mixed up in my head...Akonyl wrote:Way to go, Pofa. In other news, I'm watching House of 5 Leaves. It's quite good, but I have to admit to not being a huge fan of the character designs.

Have fun getting halfway through the show, then having nothing to watch except painfully-timed subtitles. That's currently why I haven't finished it. D:pofa wrote: In other news, I'm watching House of 5 Leaves. It's quite good, but I have to admit to not being a huge fan of the character designs.
As for me, the reason I started watching 5 Leaves was specifically because I liked the art style.

Re: I'm Currently Watching...
Not to mention, in episode 8 (the first of the bad subtitles), there's even a little 20 second or so section that's completely unsubbed. It's probably not very relevant to the plot, but it still leaves you going "uhhhh"pofa wrote:D:Akonyl wrote: Have fun getting halfway through the show, then having nothing to watch except painfully-timed subtitles.

I just finished episode 7.
Did Funimation just give up or what?

Iunno, I wasn't watching the funi subs. But if you keep watching and there's no break in the subtitles in episode 8, feel free to point me towards the episode source you're using.

Re: I'm Currently Watching...
I finished 5 Leaves the other day on hulu; the Funimation subs are fine through the end. It's hulu, so you have to put up with the indignity of commercial interruption, but if the fansubs are that bad maybe it's worth it. (Maybe you could track down the Funi subs somewhere else, but hulu's video quality is nice.)Akonyl wrote: Iunno, I wasn't watching the funi subs. It's a pretty good ending, although most of the best stuff happens before the last episode, imo.
I'm about to start watching Glass Mask, too.

well that's good to hear. I can probably find the funi subs elsewhere too, so I don't have to deal with the whole commercial thing.pofa wrote:I finished 5 Leaves the other day on hulu; the Funimation subs are fine through the end.
