Usually, to go insane to the point of creating a world war, you'd have to have had some actual romantic interaction with the girl.  He literally had none.  He was going to confess, but didn't, and knew she loved Kakashi, not him.  It's not like they had been madly in love or anything, he wasn't going to tap it either way.

The problem with Naruto is that a lot of things are happening on the same time. You had Naruto, Kakashi' and Guy fighting with Obito. The Kages fighting against Madara. Sasuske with Orochimaru.
All three of these in the same time!

Kishi cleared up a lot of stuff this week, but we all know where this is going anyway. Madara brainwashes Obito into doing evil deeds, through showing Rin's death and a bunch of other shit.

Even nearly 150 episodes in, god is this soundtrack meh. I loved the first anime's soundtrack, one of the only ones I'd listen to. It was so much fun, instantly memorable, it was like a really freaking good JRPG soundtrack or something. But this one is just not fun.

Honestly, I still think that's the worst part of Shippuden. Like one of the reasons I can tolerate bad AOs in Detective Conan is because "yay awesome soundtrack" and it makes everything better but Shippuden's is boring.
