Re: Popular, Critically Acclaimed Manga/Anime That You Haven
I've seen very few anime that came out before 1996.
But other than that a few that come to mind that at least fit one of those:
Bakemonogatari
Steins Gates
Madoka
Angel Beats
Monster (although this is because I am reading the manga...someday)
Mushishi
Planetes
Legend of the Legendary Heroes
Gurren Lagann
Outside of Monster and maybe the last 2 I'll probably watch these. Someday.

i have read the manga...Akonyl wrote:I may be wrong but I would say that the majority of people who haven't watched Monster haven't really heard much about it.kyuuketsuki wrote: not one mention of Naoki Urasawa's Monster. You all lie. That is one of the most critically acclaimed, but horribly under watched series.
And many of those aren't critically acclaimed, just popular.
I've seen it though, so I'm not a liar. :V

I haven't seen Neon Genesis Evangelion. Is it really as pretentious as LK makes it out to be?
I haven't seen Bleach, One Piece or Naruto because between InuYasha and DC I've gotten a bit jaded about long runners XD Same goes for Dragonball.
Not seen Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain or Code Geass; I've heard of them and heard that they're famous, but I don't actually know the first thing about them.

The only one that I haven't seen in its truest sense would actually be the animated movie, Girl who leapt through time.
The other critically acclaimed ones I've seen a portion of (but haven't really finished watching) are as follows:
(A) Mushishi - tried 1or 2 episodes then dropped the series; could pick this up in the future though
(B) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - I've watched one of the movies and some episodes of SAC but haven't really completed watching GITS

I hear a lot of good things about One Piece, but I just don't have the time to dedicate myself to a 500+ series now. I mean, I'm not going to lie, I pretty much had no life when I watched DC in like, 4 months. I'm not willing to do that again.leokiko wrote: Everyone go watch One Piece O.O.
I don't know my list though, will update it later.
Regarding Monster, I have seen it, and I need to rewatch it - but that series is dragged out a little bit too long. If it was 20-30 episodes shorter it would have been much better.
And secondly, if you have seen Haruhi, you guys got to see Lucky Star. They come together as one package.
Lastly, give Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood a shot. I didnt like original FMA but I love brotherhood. It's only 64 episodes, so its not a huge time investment, and it will set the bar for every future action/adventure shonen you will ever watch.

Luckily I`m kind of mainstream-mania. The only popular anime I refuse to watch... is Bleach.

Never seen Haruhi, I know I probably should, but I can't find anywhere to download it since Kametsu went down.
Also, so agreed with Ranger on Brotherhood. Watch it. WATCH IT.

You definitely should. I feel like everyone should at least give that series a shot. I was once like "Haruhi? -.- that stupid dance" and then I became "YEAH THAT STUPID DANCE!"mangaluva wrote: Never seen Haruhi, I know I probably should, but I can't find anywhere to download it since Kametsu went down.

I usually don't DL a series until I concretely enjoy it, so I tend to watch streams first. Crunchyroll has all of Haruhi, legally.
Doki fansubs (doki.co) also has torrents of Haruhi season 1, 2, and the movie in like top-notch Bluray quality.

I honestly have no idea why I like it so much. I can't put it to words. The characters aren't the most unique characters ever...but they are pretty damn lovable. And it might have to due with its a mixture of like every single genre..mystery,scifi, romance, slice of life, action...leokiko wrote: I don't like Haruhi. I think it's just decent.
edit: Forums are giving me issues.
Also, I included music, animation quality, seiyuus.

Well, I don't think it sucks, it's a good anime but...I just think it's overrated (I rarely REALLY think an anime is overrated). I also have a few anime/manga that makes me feel that way, that I can't seem to put it into words(Iris zero and DC are examples) why I like it too much xD.ranger wrote:I honestly have no idea why I like it so much. Yeah, I definitly agree with Haruhi being overrated. It's an enjoyable series and everything, but it's not as good as a lot of the fanbase claims it is.
