note to self: everyone dying makes for a happy ending.
L died and thus made a "Happy ending". L wins.... joke ;p
Well, I find it hard to compare both because they have different settings:
1) Death Note is in a world with supernatural thing, while the other world tries to avoid that.
2) Shinichi has to fight against a big organization while L fights against 1 person (with his shinigami pet). Kira get's just some few allies later on.
3) L has the organizations (police etc.) as allies from the beginning while Shinichi is pretty much alone with some single allies (agasa, later heiji and Haibara). Later on Shinichi is backed up by the FBI.
4) L doesn't have anything to loose. He doesn't have a loved one that he leaves behind with his death. He also doesn't try to protect the police officers (he tells them that they could die if they still go after Kira, but that's it)
Shinichi on the other hand has a lot of friends and someone he loves. So he can't go with full power against the org, because he tries to survive and tries to not put anyone else he knows into danger (tho he fails to do that sometimes)
Still I voted or Shinichi, because L has a bigger advantage imo and still died XD

P.S. Kira can't kill Conan since it's not his true name. Unless Kira will figure out.
I'm not sure about this...
Remember, Kira didn't find out L's name either. Instead, he manipulated a Shinigami into killing L for him. So if he can manage to do that again, he could kill Shinichi too.
As for:

While this is true, remember that Conan has had his life saved a few times by Deus Ex Machinas (like when he was hiding in the locker from Gin). So it isn't from Conan's intelligence that he's still alive, it's just because his writer didn't want to kill him, while L's did.
So, maybe if L's writer just loved him a little more he'd still be around. D:
Also, yeah L died, but not *everybody* died, so it's still not necessarily a happy ending.

Yes, it is not a fair comparison. I agree that it was unfair of me to say that Shinichi is better analytically, observance wise and memory wise. Perhaps, it was wrong for me to do that. Nevermind, It was wrong for me to do that. However, watching Shinichi just makes you think he's the best. He gets every single clue no matter how unsuspecting it looks, and is able to tie it up immediately. He listens to every single word coming out of each suspects' mouth, making one wrong word the end of you. He is able to think and put together the most complicated of tricks like killing a woman using chessboard pieces, two fishing hooks and a bar of soap (example). He could decipher the weirdest codes. He could determine the strangest of substances just by feeling or smelling it. He manages to put together everything! Everything that's thrown at him will always be solved by the end of the day. He knows the smallest of facts! He has a perfect pitch. He's able to think in pressured situations and still come up with a plan. He could determine a person's job or habit just by looking at their hand or body for blisters, cut marks, etc. And just like L, they both know how to outwit a dangerous adversary. But one thing that separates L and Shinichi in this case, is that, not only could Shinichi think of a way to outwit his opponent but he could do it himself as well. Unlike L, Shinichi's deduction abilities remain the same whether or not he's sitting. Not to mention, Shinichi is a perfect package. He's been taught a lot of things in Hawaii, which has become a bit of a joke in the DC community. He can shoot, drive, run and who knows what? And just like L, Shinichi as well could solve a case without being on the scene physically. He doesn't need police reports either. All he needs is a short description from a person he's talking to. And based on this description, Shinichi would order the person he's talking to, to look in this direction, run to a certain spot, etc, etc and viola! The case is solved. Besides, Detective Conan probably has the smartest criminals in the anime world and Shinichi has beaten every single one of them.
You know where I'm going? It's hard to think that L could match up to these standards. Just think about it. I mean, it's hard enough to imagine that such a perfect Detective even exists. Not to mention, considering his age, just makes things even freakier. Shinichi is just 17 years old! Compared to L who's 8 years older (25). Sure, I'm sorry for comparing things like this. But you must understand that I probably have a point here. But then again, it was unfair. Just as you said, Shinichi's skills are always put on full display. While we've only watched L solve one case and heard of the rest. It was unfair of me to compare something like this. However, I hope I was able to get through you with this post. Because, I believe that I have a point here as well. - Dude

Based on the anime series Death Note, L has control over the police organizations (even the FBI) around the world. While Shinichi only gained the trust of the Japanese police. So, in terms of power, L is superior.
Having more power doesn't make one a better Detective.

Black Organization
- No face. No name (Shinichi just calls them "the Organization"). Unknown members. Unknown goals.
- Have a lot of connections and influences in hollywood, the media, the goverment, the police, the FBI, etc).
- Control a lot of wealthy/influential people.
- Control a number of highly trained killers
- Unknown goal however, it seems to something dangerous especially since one of their projects was said to "set the fate for all of humanity"
- Are extremely filthy filthy filthy super extremely wealthy.
- Have the power to do almost everything (The Organization simultaneously started 3 deadly incidents in the CORAB arc which led to the swarming of Haido Central Hospital)
- Their efficient/structured ways of operating and their brilliant ways of secrecy.
- Their ability to leave no traces at all.
- By having several members planted in different places, companies and organizations. The Organization could use these positions in order to complete tasks such as assassinations, information gathering, etc.
- They also own several companies, companies which are headed by their members, to be exact.
- They have been successful in persuading several influential people to their side.
- Use advanced technology.
- Experience (The Black Organization has been in existence for more than 50 years)
- They can get anything they want via connections, bribery, blackmail, etc.
- Their incredible ways of investigating. (Even without knowing the boy-who-witnessed-the-rena-incident's face or the incident for that matter. Vermouth was still, able to locate that boy and ask him a couple of questions)
- The Organization's assassins are highly trained in several ways. They have efficient sure-shot snipers, People who are capable of pulling off flawless disguises, cold blooded killers like Gin, highly experienced members who specialize in information gathering and amazing detectives like Bourbon.
- Have several thousands of members.
- Control a large amount of highly intelligent and educated scientists who have studied overseas.
The Organization is capable of "becoming a person".
Spoiler:
The scary thing about the Organization is that they can become anyone they want. In other words, they can take over someone elses life. They do this by killing that person and his family. Then replacing that person via disguise. BO members who are tasked on taking over a person's life are sent to befriend/learn about him before killing that person. Also, these dangerous acts can only be done by experienced BO members such as Vermouth.
Oh my god
Spoiler:
Once the BO kills someone. Everyone and everything around them will be chopped. (Relatives, family and friends will be killed and properties will be burned/destroyed.)
Their mere presence alone could drive an escapee insane!
Spoiler:
Their mere presence led Ai to commiting suicide in the "bus jacking case". If it weren't for Conan she'd be dead by now. BO escapee "Numabuchi Kiichiro" killed 3 people in panic, mistaking them for BO pursuers. Just as he was being arrested he shouted "It's all their fault!" right at the camera
The insanely huge amount of information they have on people
Spoiler:
Yes, they a have giant wad of information on one of their lowest ranking members such as Numabuchi Kiichiro.
The Black Organization's only weakness
1) Vermouth
Kira's weaknesses.
1) Can't kill without a name or face
2)His allies who obtained the Shinigami eyes can't kill without a face.
- Due to the obvious clues of him...
a) Being a student
b) Living in a certain area in Japan
c) Having connections to the police (His father's files) Kira cannot move as freely as the Black Organization.
4) You can get to Kira by fooling his subordinates, since they're much inferior in terms of strategic thinking. (Just as they did to Misa)
The Organization wins this one, HANDS DOWN.

I think the BO has the clear advantage since there are so many rules with the Death Note.
But you know, just because you have a Death Note doesn't mean you have to use it all the time...I started to wonder why Light didn't just have Misa whack L over the head with a golf club and then kill all the witnesses, instead of going through all that trouble. Pride, maybe.
Superman = Captain America > Aquaman = Hal Jordan > Wonder Woman > Barry Allen > Thor > Martian Manhunter > The Hulk > Wasp > Hawkeye > [power gap] > Iron Man = Batman > [power gap] > Hank Pym
In this case, Black Org would probably win. The whole not-having-known-real-names helps them a lot.
Though, if he took the Shinigami Eyes, it might be different. Probably not though, because the only reason Kira lasted so long was because nobody knew it was him.
Black Org obviously wins but I wouldn't blame people if they voted for Kira as he actually won at least once. (seriously, best the Black Org has done onscreen is tie or win but kill a high ranking member)
A lot of them aren't even aware of this show's plot.
Some of them don't even know about Shinichi's shrinking and think that Conan is Conan.
They say that L is a better detective since he's facing a stronger opponent when the Org is actually superior (IMO).
Majority aren't even aware of the Organization's existence in Detective Conan.
Majority of those who know of the Organization (which is like 10% of Death Note fans) think of it as a one-two punch (Gin and Vodka) instead of a large crime syndicate.
Practically none of them are aware of the FBI and CIA's existence in Detective Conan.
Majority of them haven't even watched Detective Conan.
Practically all of them believe that Shinichi is nowhere close to L. When it's actually the other way around (crossing out the "nowhere close").
They think DC is an anime for kids. "for me there's no way we can compare death note with that childish detective Conan anime" - some idiot
And some of them, are just too biased to accept the real thing. The only place where Detective Conan can win in terms of "L vs Shinichi" or "BO vs Kira" is in a Detective Conan forum where people are mature and highly knowledgeable in both animes.
This is ridiculous...

Yes it is. But I'm a Death Note fan and a DC fan at the same time though because I love both of them!
