Has anyone here ever finished reading the novel through Volume 9? I'm just at Volume 6, and even in the early parts of the anime I've kind of noticed something... really... creepy...

I haven't read the novels, but it's fairly obvious he's bi.  He seems to want a piece of both Haruhi and Kyon.  Or he may only want a piece of Kyon because, by extension, he'd feel like he was getting a piece of Haruhi.

There is a little more to it, she knew she was missing something and since Haruhi is smart and always gets her work done she couldnt imagine that a group study session over summer break would be fun, Kyon starts it (since he is the lazy ass) and then bam Haruhi has something to look forward to breaking the time loop. Kyon probably could of said anything really to get the group together I bet, but it took him 595 years for him to do his homework think about that one  :P was it really Haruhi's loop or Kyon's?

EDIT: also since Kyon never suggested a study group in the first place even though he said something about homework when Haruhi brought out her list it also puts him a little closer to joining her antics more then watching them, which comes to a head in Disappearance *spoiler* Haruhi is made normal but Kyon wants to change everything back because he was enjoying the SOS brigade (I could go on but I will stop)

Edit: Endless Eight Eight is awesome because of Asahina. It's something that's used in countless shows and is never funny yet this time I was like "wait what XD?"
