Higurashi's setting is Watanagashi Festival and the plot is about going beyond the date after the Festival... It's also about Friendship and going against Fate..
Umineko is about the Ushiromiya Family trapped in Rokkenjima Island..
Series of murders occur on both series... The 1st season of Higurashi is a bit creepy while Umineko is a little bit investigative and features some deduction battle between Battler and the witch Beatrice...
If you think you are cooler than me then prove it, B*TCH!
Watched the anime of both and recently started playing Umineko, PS3 version (just finished Legend of the Golden Witch the other day, but haven't had much time to play since then).
I <3 this series.
The more I think about it, the more I think that the Umineko anime was a bad adaptation. It was faithful all right (from what I've seen of the game), but so full of holes. Sometimes I wish they'd been less faithful, rewritten some things to fit the anime format and made it more coherent this way...
I think the Higurasih anime was really well done though, even if the game is probably better.
As for which is better, on the whole and so far, I find Umineko more interesting.
The characters I like the most are Beatrice, Maria and Rosa (their story is so tragic) and Ange. The game gave me new hindsight on Battler (really, the anime made him seem like an idiot, but he's actually rather mature and intelligent), so he's in the favourites too now. Rudolf is funny, I like him too. I think the only character I want to strangle is Eva. Everything that comes out of her mouth sounds like she's mocking whoever she's talking to. Doesn't mean that I don't like her though =P
I want to play episode 8 SO BAD, even though I heard the ending makes people rage. I'm tempted to get my friends to send it over for me, but I can't afford to do something like that xD.
VN FTWWWW.
Eh really? I love Eva. Her life sucks though D8. I couldn't stand Rosa when she hits Maria ;A;.
I don't want to hear anything about the ending or how it makes people react =(
Anyway, I progressed a bit in Turn of the Golden Witch.
Spoiler:
They've discovered that Jessica is dead, and Battler just proved Kanon's innocence (Jessica must be happy now). My memory is a bit foggy, but Battler gives me a completely different impression than when I watched the anime. idk... Maybe I need to rewatch those episodes to see what was different XD
Loving the "deductions" parts tho. Now I wonder what Conan would do if he was there XD
I guess the main difference between Conan and Battler is that Conan wouldn't refuse to suspect anyone from the family...
Yeah, from what I've heard about the anime, Battler is portrayed as an idiot. In the VN, he's frikkin' badass. Especially in EP2 onward--the level of his awesomeness exponentially rises.
Battler isn't raised to be a detective, he just reads a lot of detective novels. And if you like the reasoning battles in 2, you are going to LOVE them in all the next one.
For me, the most epic reasoning battle is in 5.
Spoiler: EP5
BATTLER JUMPS OUT OF A WINDOW!
No amount of apologies will express how much I regret it.
Yeah, you're right. I just finished EP2, and he was indeed pretty badass, especially at the end (despite all that happened). Man I never expected to like him so much. I seriously didn't care for him at all in the anime, but now he's like my favourite Umineko character, and probably high in my overall favourite anime/manga/game characters list. Battler<3
And Beatrice is crazier than I remember, but she also shows a more delicate side from time to time. She's awesome too, imo. Actually, I think I love all the characters.
@kirite: warming up to Eva now ^^
I wish I could play EP5 and the others when I'm done with the first four, but since I'm playing the PS3 version, I'll have to wait till those are adapted ;_;
