Game Of Thrones

When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.
Cersei Lannister, GoT 01x07
Seeing as there have been discussions on the series all over the forums, I thought it might be a good idea to create a thread for all those discussions.

However, even if this is a special thread, please do use labelled spoilers for, well, spoilers. For example:
Spoiler: GoT 01x01
A king arrives.
And always, ALWAYS spoiler book stuff:
Spoiler: SoS Jon X (book 3 chapter 73)
Another king arrives.

Now, what do you guys think of the latest episode (03x09)? :x
Spoiler: kinda spoiler for 03x09, I suppose
But now the rains weep o'er his halls / with noone there to hear...

I didn't think it was actually possible to make it worse than in the book, but nope, Tulisa's there and pregnant and going to name the baby Eddard but lolnope swords in the stomach. Which I also like better for emotional value than Jeyne, who in the book just isn't there and randomly appears a couple of books later for no particularly good reason. I would've liked to have seen Cat do the crazy face-ripping shit she does out of grief in the book, though, rather than just going catatonic. Don't think I could have taken it if they'd shown the part where they beheaded Rob, sewed Grey Wind's head on in place and strung up the body, though.

^Holy sh*t, manga, you have to fix that post
Spoiler:
I cried... a bit. For Grey Wind, and somehow Catelyn. :V

I bet Robb's corpse's humilation comes next episode. Hmmmmm.

I kind of fail to see the purpose behind using spoiler boxes for TV series discussion. That that point, everything is a spoiler box, and one shouldn't come into the thread in the first place if they aren't up to date on the TV show at least.

I mean, I don't know about others, but I'm not going to go through and open a spoiler box for each post for each episode.

I generally agree with you, but there's a bit of a difference here. In most shows, spoilers aren't all that major, while GoT/ASoIaF has huge spoilers, which are capable of spoiling entire season, example:
Spoiler: 01x09
Season One is quite a lot less interesting when you already know Ned dies.
Also, there is no need to use a spoiler box for every episode, you can just always use the latest. This works just fine:
Spoiler: 03x09
Catelyn's brother experiences something bearing some similarity to what happened to Viserys' sister in 01x01.
There is no need to put up an extra spoiler for 01x01.
I just wouldn't want the posts to be dark and full of spoilers :P

Spoiler: SoS Davos V (book 3 chapter 54)

I read that scene first in the books, and my reaction was similar - I hadn't really expected things to go over smoothly (this is ASoIaF, after all), but I thought that the Freys would take revenge upon Robb specifically. Which is why Catelyn's death shocked me more than Robb's :x
(Jeyne/Talisa is not present at the wedding, in the books)
Spoiler: SoS Davos V (book 3 chapter 54)
I doubt we are actually going to see it. I think we'll just hear about it from afar, like in the books. Though I suspect it will be Joffrey telling us (or rather, Sansa), because that's just his thing :x

But some people read the books? :3
Also, I didn't watch the 3rd season yet because it wasn't aired in germany yet.

I love how Daenarys always gets those awesome scenes :D
Though there was also one scene that I don't get - Yara/Asha, you want to sail to the Dreadfort? From the Iron Islands?
Well then, good luck, you have a journey ahead that's longer than the one Deanarys has yet to travel. We'll see you again in season 5 then, I suppose. Seriously, what's with people not looking at maps?
(In order to get to the Dreadfort, she has to say south all the way to the Arbor (2000 miles), sail east around Drone(2000 miles again), then North through the Narrow Sea past Kings' Landing and Dragonstone (2000 miles more), then northwest to the Weeping Water (1000 miles), and 200 miles up the Weeping Water, a small river. On a warship. 7000 miles through hostile territory. WTF?)

Also, Tywin Lannister is just...

And who are you, the proud lord said,
That I must bow so low?
Only a cat in a stolen stag's coat,
That's all the truth I know.
In a coat of grey or a coat of red,
A beast has teeth and claws;
And mine are long and sharp, mylord,
As long and sharp as yours!

And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
That Young Wolf of the North,
But now the rains weep o'er his halls,
With noone there to hear.
Yes, now the rains weep o'er his halls,
And not a soul to hear.

Enjoy Dany's awesome.
Spoiler: extremely minor book spoiler. I don't even know why I'm putting this in a spoiler box.
It's the last awesome she's going to have until the end of season five, unless they massively change things.

Spoiler: ADWD (book 5), I suppose
Actually, season 6. The end of season 5 should be somewhere in the middle of ADWD and AFFC, as season 4 will still be about ASOS. Season 6 should then be the second half of ADWD and AFFC, and seeing as I'm currently roughly 60% into ADWD and nothing awesome has happened yet...
Also, not that minor a spoiler IMO. It essentially says that she'll be tame all the time until then, and that, at that point, it'll stop :-\

They're obviously changing some things. Hm. Must be leaving most cool stuff for Season 4. Can't wait.

Finally finished the fifth book today. I´ve heard that it´s going to be long wait before the sixth. :(
Spoiler: Vague book 3 spoilers
Book three completely crushed any lingering hope that this "Lord of Light" was anything but bad news. Not that I had much since the shadow thing. I wonder how they are going to deal with that scene.
