Off the top off my head, my all-time favourite is The Princess Bride.

I also utterly adore the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the good one with Gene Wilder.

My favourite movie of the last 12 months is The Avengers.

That would be Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Sweeney Tood (Tim Burton version)

Favorite movie is either Spirited Away or Back to the Future part 2. Maybe also the first Pirates of the Caribbean (which is probably to me what the first Indiana Jones movie is to a lot of people meethinks).

In terms of recent movies, easily Dredd 3D. Some of the only 3D I've seen that I've liked and it's like the best 80s action movie but made today.

The Princess Bride is one of the most fantastic movies, ever.  If you haven't seen it yet, go watch it.  Netflix, rent, pirate, I don't care.  Everyone should see it at least once.

The Avengers is probably the best movie I saw in the last year, along with The Dark Knight Rises.  If we're counting older movies I just recently saw, Ghostbusters is definitely one of my new favorites.  Also, Shutter Island and J. Edgar were both fantastic as well.  Les Miserables wasn't my favorite, but it was somewhat entertaining.  I saw it with my best friend and our running commentary was probably more interesting than the movie itself.  I can see why some people go crazy over it, though.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was pretty awesome, even if it was a bit long.  The whole Lord of the Rings trilogy is great as well...

PotC 1 and Indiana Jones 3 are great.  I could probably go on.

I don't really have "a" favorite movie, just "the movie I like best right now." That's Sneakers at the time of this post.

Casablanca, but there are any number of favorite-worthy movies out there. The Avengers is my favorite from the past year as well.

Oh, for the "last twelve months" stakes, add Cabin In The Woods. That movie was absolute genius and bloody hilarious.

I would add The Impossible if I thought I could watch it more than once. I don't think I have any feels left now.

Also, everything by the Marx Brothers is absolutely classic, but I thiiiiiiink my favourite might be Duck Soup. I'd be definite if it had a Harpo harp solo in it, but for some inexplicable reason it's one of the few that doesn't and that puts it at risk of competition from A Night At The Opera.
